The Elder Scrolls Online trailer released

Get ready for an old man talking as a statue moves

Well that was fast. Hot off the heels of The Elder Scrolls Online's announcement (and our subsequent story listing the things we want to see in The Elder Scrolls MMO) Bethesda has released a teaser trailer for the game. And, yeah, "teaser" is a really, really good way to put it.

It consists of no in-game footage, no new details, and no new information, but it does feature a statue moving around as an old guy (who we think might be Sir Michael Gambon, the actor who portrayed Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films) talks about battles and stuff. In other words, it's basically a shot-for-shot remake of the Skyrim trailer from a few years back that so many people got so excited about.

So, what do you think? Does a moving image of the still we saw yesterday get your motor running, or are you waiting to see some in-game video before whipping out your check books and throwing money at your computer screen?

Well, I must admit, whether the MMO's going to be good or not, Zenimax/Bethesda DO KNOW how to make a teaser trailer.

God. Oh god. My life is over. I will never emerge from my house once this is released.

There seems to be this pattern of succesful Triple A titles going to MMO land, and once there, remaining there for time unending. So long as that doesn't happen, and Bethesda continues the single player experience in new game, I will begrudgingly accept this entry into the Elder Scrolls series. Introversion and your own unfettered imagination, I feel, is the most integral part of the Elder Scrolls formula. I hope it is present in their forray into MMO territory.

just speculating here, but maybe enemies rising refers to dragons, as the statues, but at the time you see when you look at the elder scroll, near the end of the game, when many ancient heroes defeated the dragons? Or of course it could be completely separate and aimed at the "MASSIVE EXPLOSIONS!" "Michael Bay" audience, which i really hope it is not, as that would mean an almost complete drop of the stuff that makes the elder scrolls so brilliant. They would lose their entire fan base

From the sounds of what he says, we may actually see a jump BACKWARDS in the timeline... He mentions the throne is empty. In the Oblivion Crisis (elder scrolls 4) the septim bloodline is assassinated and all that jazz with martin comes into play. However, if you remember the plot (spoiler alert) the dragon fires were made obsolete with the destruction of the amulet of kings. I may be wrong on that though, the dragon fires may still be relevant. However, it would be a perfect setting for an elder scrolls mmo. The obvlivion gates were actually opening up all over tamriel, not just cyrodiil. That being said, it would take many heroes to close those gates. Also, those gates could have led to the other daedric lords coming into play. Sheogorath managed to open his own gate in the niben bay during this time, why couldnt the others? There are endless possibilities. You may even be able to become a worshipper of one daedric lord and go against rival daedric worshippers. That'd be SMASHING! So, my theory, this mmo takes place during the Oblivion Crisis, and most likely incorporates all of tamriel. Thats one thing that bothered me about skyrim...theres no mention of who closed the gates there or what happened, but the Thalmor say that it was they who stopped the gates, not the champion of cyrodiil (who in canon, was an imperial). /theory rant

Well, it has already been revealed that it is set a thousand years before the events in Skyrim. Apparently around the time Molag Bal was attempting to bring Tamriel into the Oblivion plane. So your idea about worldwide Oblivion gates opening and needing a lot of heroes to close them all actually has merit, even if a bit accidentally on purpose XD

Hopefully Dumbledore will be a playable character XD But seriously, that'd be sweet.
