EA teases new Need for Speed with screenshot

EA has published what’s likely to be the first image of a next-gen entry in the Need for Speed series. The teaser screenshot, showing off a Koenigseggon police cruiser, was posted on the publisher’s Australian Facebook page alongside the text: "Have no rules, show no mercy."

EA Labels president Frank Gibeau said last night that the publisher intends to show off a next-gen Need for Speed game at E3 next month. “Our E3 briefing ‘The Download: EA 2013 Preview’ will be a showcase of next-generation games like Battlefield 4, Need For Speed, a full range of EA Sports games and a first look at our plans for the Star Wars partnership with Disney,” he wrote on EA’s site.

At Microsoft’s Xbox One reveal event last night, EA confirmed a Battlefield 4 release date of October 29 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, while also announcing next-gen console versions of the shooter. EA Sports also took the wraps off its new Ignite engine, which will power the company’s next-gen sports titles.

The car has 'PURSUIT' on the side of it, so expect Hot Pursuit 2.

The background does looks like a Hot Pursuit environment... completely rural. There goes my hopes of a new Underground title.

I'd love a Underground 3, but I don't think they would do it justice as it's not the type of game where they could flaunt their Bugatti and Zonda licences, it'd need to be mk3 Golfs and Nissin Skylines.

I wonder if the car will combine with other police cars to create a giant death wheel of police cars.

That cutscene had me in stitches laughing at how ridiculous it was.
