EA man says days of average licensed games ‘are dead like the dinosaur’ just as EA publish new 2/10 Harry Potter

Ain’t it grand when you can set two people up on a blind date? Why, just this week head of EA Games Frank Gibeau set up Mr. Foot with Ms. Mouth. He also proclaims the days of average licensed games is over, in the same month his publisher released the utterly woeful Kinect-compatible Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. Yup, we think Johnny Foot is going to be very Happy in Jenny Mouth.

Stressing that he would like to see movie-based games given the kibosh for new and inventive IPs, he said: "If you want to make a hit, you have to give a game time to get to quality. The days of licensed-based, 75-rated games copies are dead like the dinosaur."

He also briefly talked about why EAbinned the Bond license, which Activision picked up, publishing the depressingly average Blood Stone, but also the surprisingly ace GoldenEye 007. "We dumped that license because we felt like we needed to own more intellectual property, and we don't like where James Bond is going with all the creative limitations on it.” Gibeau proclaimed.

The executive continued. "Considering the total amount of money we have to spend on those types of James Bond games, and the total amount of man-hours we had to put into them, we thought; hell, let's work on our own IP."

Gibeau also makes a good point about the upcoming Dead Space 2, which we’re so excited aboutour pantaloons are currently filling withsome sort ofyellow liquid. He said: "The guys who made James Bond games for us, well yeah, they went on and made Dead Space. And look where we are now; what would you rather publish, retail and play - the latest James Bond or Dead Space 2?"

A good point, to be sure. But perhaps he should have spaced the comments out a little from the release of the new, utterly woeful,EA-published Harry Potter, which we’ve just slapped a big fat 2/10 on.

We hear Foot and Mouth are due to set a date for their wedding any day now.
