Interesting ideas. So you want Emily as the new playable character? That could be a nice twist on things but how do you justify an Empress who drops everything and goes climbing on roof tops. From what I gathered from the game the Empress does not do a lot of dirty work. It was even Corvo who went to discuss the issue of the plague with the neighboring countries/cities. Might be an interesting twist, but I don't see how it might work out. Also the heart must make a comeback. If Emily is the new protagonist it would be awesome to see how she would struggle to accept the heart's existence (assuming the heart is of Emily's mother). One last thing. The main character must have a voice actor and actual speaking parts. Corvo was okay as a silent, brooding type since that's the way he is. The new character should be a bit more vocal (not another Corvo).

Maybe there was an attempting regicide, and the escaped by the skin of her teeth. Further, maybe the other kingdoms plotted it, thus leading us to said places.

Someone could again try to kill the empress and take over the city. Going along with the idea of visiting cities other than Dunwall, it could be a much larger conspiracy involving people within the governments of neighboring territories. There could be an attempt on Elizabeth's life, or she could be framed for some crime or otherwise publicly humiliated in such a way that she was required to go into hiding. She could even use Corvo's mask. I agree that Elizabeth should definitely have a voice. One thing I felt was missing from Dishonored was a chance to board a whaling ship. So much was made of the importance of the whaling industry in Dunwall, and yet I never found myself anywhere near a ship. That would really add some variety to the environments.

Sure. A city wide take over from another city would make sense. That way Emily will have to go underground and her supporters (if there are any) can't help her since the city has a new ruler. That way Emily has a clear goal of saving dunwall and murdering a few key individuals along the way.
