Dead Space 3 Reveal interview

Shares

Dead Space 3 is back with more death and more space. Well less spacey space and more ice planet space. Yes, Issac is sick of wandering around space station corridors filled with Necromorphs and is now wandering around a planet teeming with them. But at least this time he brought a friend.

Everyone who's mad that it's not "Survival Horror" just look at DS1 and DS2. DS1 stopped being "horror" the moment I turned the power back on. As soon as I did that I was scared by a few jump scares but that's about it. DS2 didn't even have ANY horror to it. It was just an action game. Dead Space is terrifying looking yea but Horror hasn't exactly been it's main feature.

This is starting to look more and more like a straight-up action game, and that's not good. Also, a continuous AI companion? It was neat in RE4, what with her being helpless, but RE5 was just a pretty shooter and nothing more. Oh jeez.

So it sounds like if you are playing SP, you won't have an AI Carver following you around, like Sheva in RE5. I hope this is the case. They can shoehorn co-op/MP into as many games as they want, as long as they keep the SP separate.

This was the e3 that most of the games shown took a step backward, or in a awkward mainstream fashion.

Dead Space 3, Splinter Cell, and Battlefield Premium are the emulation your statement.

Ok...this is starting to look an awful lot like the direction Resi 5 went. Didn't see a cover system....but they did take cover from human enemies shooting at you with rifles. Gimme a weak gun, gimme a pitch black area where I need to use my flashlight to see where I'm going, but quickly turn the flashlight off so necros won't see me. Let me hear them slithering around in the dark looking for me while I hold my breath trying to sneak as quietly away from them as possible, and try not to bump into anything in the dark that will let them know where I am. Wanna make scary? Make that. Not what we see, but what we hear, and what is lurking just behind us, breathing heavy and growling in our ears. Not a fully automatic weapon that can tear through armored personnel and you and a buddy wise-cracking as you "kill us sum alien sons a bitches!"

Winter 2013? shit. And could some one please explain how having another person present lessens the value of horror?
  • Bansheebot - June 6, 2012 9:54 p.m.

I'm still clinging to the hope it doesn't become another Resident Evil 5.

wow. i really don't like watching the anti-smoking commercial before the video.

Really not a fan of having someone else with you for the entire, or at least the majority of the game. It completely kills any kind of tension or "horror" that you could try to be going for in a, y'know, SURVIVAL HORROR GAME. Still kinda interested in the game, but substantially less so than before the E3 reveal.
