David Goyer sees The Invisible Man

Given that his last film as a writer and director was called The Invisible, and that it arrived to critical moans and slow box office, you’d have to worry about David Goyer signing up to handle The Invisible Man on pure superstition alone.

But Universal isn’t letting that get in the way of hiring the man to pull a similar double duty on their new version of the HG Wells tale. But this isn’t a classic re-telling, oh no… This one’s arriving already lumbered with that Hollywood catchword we do so love around here - the one that begins with R.

"I've always been a fan of the original H.G. Wells book as well as the Universal film and felt the property was ripe for reimagining," Goyer blabbed to Variety. So what does that mean for the see-through main character? Well, this new project is being developed as a sequel to Wells’ story. It will focus on a nephew of the original scientist who stumbles on his formula and ends up working as a spy for MI5 during World War Two.

Despite boasting Brian Grazer as a producer, it’ll have to fight for room on Goyer’s busy schedule with his plan to direct the X-Men spin-off Magneto.
