Darksiders II reveal trailer proposes radical “Death as Badass” theory

It's a scientifically proven fact that if you stacked every videogame ever to feature Death as a character on top of one another, you'd be able to reach the moon three times over. However, whereas the default depiction of the Great Leveler is the robed skeleton of medieval woodcuts and 70s heavy metal covers, the launch trailer for 2012's Darksiders 2 posits the notion that Grim Reaping is probably the sort of work for which you need to keep in shape, and for which a shirt is just a hindrance. Death, says Darksiders, probably acts less like Jack Kevorkian and more like the WCW's Sting.

@Larinah actuallly no, he is supposed to be WAYYYYY stronger than war...like ridiculously...and although I agree he seems more agile, he is supposed to be the leader of the horsemen and better than all of them

Also, did anyone else think of Jackie estacado when they saw his long hair? XD

Dude, I loved the first Darksiders. I hope this one is just as awesome.

COOLZ! I like the first one but personally I feel I didn't give it enough attention. I'll be sure to play this and The Darkness for a fair ammount now XD

From what I could see from the trailer, Death looks to me to be a quicker, more "trick" oriented character. He's got a lot less armor, and if you watch closely, one part of the trailer has him jumping from wall to wall. Besides that, it'll probably be more of the same great LoZ clone.

Well, they are set up for this and another 2 afterward; if they can keep it fresh and cool, it could be a very great and memorable series. KEEP IT FRESH!

For some reason he reminds me of "the darkness". I think its the face mask/long hair.

Was that a Joe Abercrombie reference on the second sentence? Cuz if it was..I Love You.

ds`C NHCFGDXGHJKL;PKJHGFCDSZDFGHJKL;POHUGYFDSZAFGHJKLP;OFGDSZADFGHJKLO;P Sorry, just pretending to wipe my keyboard as a metaphor for how excited I am. But, like Vittles and Genericide, I'm a bit skeptical about how the gameplay is gonna change, and also about how they're going to carry on from there (if they decide to, that is). Oh, and we'll get to use the same Scythe that i deliberately pre-ordered for, and then found out I could have got for free over the internet ANYWAY? Seriously, THQ. Unique DLC codes.

I bought Darksiders during that buy 2 get 1 free used games sale at Gamestop, and honestly, it is one of the best purchases I've ever made. I am about 90% done at this point, and absolutely love it. Worth way more than the 17$ I got it for. This trailer just makes me so, so excited.

@Genericide They replaced Famine and Pestilence with Fury and Strife in Darksiders to make it more badass. As for the second part, I agree with you and really hope they change the game up just a little bit.

Looks goo just gotta play the first one if only i didnt already have a huge backlog of games to play.
  • ChickenFillet5140 - June 4, 2011 2:09 a.m.

    Death IS a badass.
  • Genericide - June 4, 2011 1:55 a.m.

I haven't played the first Darksiders, though I've often considered it, yet this trailer makes me wonder 2 things: 1. Death is undoubtedly an interesting character to play. However, where can they go from here? Famine and Pestilence have always seemed to me the weaker horsemen conceptually, particularly in a combat sense. and more importantly 2. In both his appearance and the actual gameplay this...just seems like Darksiders. Like, the same game again. What exactly is the point of having different characters each game if they all end up being huge musclebound men doing stereotypical action game combat with gigantic weapons? I mean, that description made sense for War because he's, y'know, war. But death? Seems essentially like a palette swap hero to me. Hopefully these concerns are put to rest by the time the game comes out, but color me skeptical for now.

Oh my God Death is a badass.
  • sgloomy - June 4, 2011 12:05 a.m.

He kinda sounds like war, I think he should have a more whisper like voice, kinda icy. but excited none the less!!
  • NocturnalRight - June 3, 2011 11:15 p.m.

I think Ineed to cahnge my pants after that.
