Good new layout. GR leveled up, it seems.
  • Lurkero - June 25, 2012 1:44 p.m.

No! You're doing it wrong! A 5 star scale with half stars is STILL a 10 point rating system. That doesn't actually change things. 1 - don't buy this game 2 - below average 3 - mediocre 4 - good 5 - great See how easy a 5 point scale can convey a reviewers feelings? I don't understand why review sites keep avoiding 5 point scales. Besides that I appreciate the layout change. Each game should have always had its own page. It just seems easier from an organizational standpoint. Less like a blog and press release site and more like a full website.

I would appreciate an edit button on comments (so many sites are missing that these days) Also, for the gray and orange buttons at the top of the videogame page I would suggest either using a darker gray or darker orange. Right now neither color stands out as much as my eyes would prefer.

2 Years ago (or whenever the site went through it's last redesign), this kind of article would generate ~50 replys within 20 minutes. Something that worked then doesn't work well anymore. As for the new design: Easy on the eyes, Me like. Could still be wider.

It all seems alright. I do personally dislike the 5 star system. With 1 star being the worst game possible, that means that there are exactly 9 levels of gradation. To me, that doesn't feel like enough; especially since a perfect 5/5 should be extremely rare. But it's all personal preference I suppose.

I see human revolution in that example, where is the arm are you still giving it away? And cool bowling on the redesign, and hope you are right about stars stopping all the comment rage.

It's still a 10 point scale if you're handing out half marks. I'm Glad about this because although the 5 star scale works well for Movies & Music etc, i honestly don't think a 5 star system is broad enough to differentiate between games that are very good, and games that are truly excellent (likewise at the other end of the scale). Also i agree with loonyman978. The Super Reviews helped GR stand out amongst the other popular gaming sites. I appreciate that it's evolution not revolution, but it would be great to have them back. Looking forward to enjoying the new layout.

Could not agree more about the scale, there is no difference when you have half marks... Multiply by 2 and you have your 10 point scale equivalent.

Awesome layouts, and now a 5 star review rating? Even Better!
  • ThatGamerDude - June 25, 2012 2:10 p.m.

I like it. That's all I can say.
  • J-Fid - June 25, 2012 2:19 p.m.

So this should stop the "Halo Reach got an 8!?"-type rage, right? These reply and report buttons seem a bit big, but whatever.
  • Lurkero - June 25, 2012 8:26 p.m.

On a second looks these buttons are pretty large. 2 large buttons and neither one is "edit" I would suggest making the buttons smaller

Love the new layout, especially the comment setup. Can't wait to delve into it more.

    Awesome layout !
  • joabbuac - June 25, 2012 3:13 p.m.

As long as everything is easy to find, im fed up of sites that get rid of tabs (Like previews) and call it an improvement, ive not gone back to ign since they did that.
  • ultimatepunchrod - June 25, 2012 3:26 p.m.

For a second I got excited and thought there was no more recaptcha. Site looks good though. I like the new review layout.

First, I liked hearing from Gary. I know he is very busy but, as the Editor-n-Chief, he is the rudder steering the ship and it's good to hear his thoughts. Second, I love the rating system change. I have always loved the 5 star rating system, with or without, half stars. Third, the new layout is fantastic. Good work all around.

Well, I like hearing from YOU, LordZarlon. Thanks for the comments!

I agree with the previous comments of: - bring back super-reviews, please - the crux of the site was lost with the attitude of the main writers (which it hasn't fully recovered from) - a damn 'edit' button - that's laziness on the site's part; I wouldn't mind if it hadn't been requested so much, and even then, fine, but where's our explanation? C'mon, a little decency wouldn't go amiss! - and if you haven't added an 'edit' button there must be no hope in hell for us to have you add a decent video player, too, but yes, that's my request. Other than that, the new lay-out is awesome, it's a lot less convoluted and a lot more ergonomic than it was previously - so that's plus. I appreciate you can't do everything, but what I've mentioned here are mostly just 'improvements' and not a 'redesign'; I wholeheartedly think you should repair broken parts before upgrading i.e. the video player and edit button should have been fixed BEFORE the update/upgrade, in my opinion.

I find it hard to give anything 5 out of 5, on Netflix most movies I rate get a 3, because they aren't mind blowing or bad, and 5 seems like it means perfect to me. 3 stars seems too low, 7 out of 10 seems better in my head. Gamesradar just seems more like a regular game magazine or site now. It's lost most of its humor, and the new review layout reads and looks like a magazine again. I hope we get some of the character back, it all seems to have gone to the podcasts being done by the people who used to do Talkradar.
