Best of E3 06: PlayStation 3

Assassin's Creed

Publisher: Ubisoft
Developer: Ubisoft Montreal
Release Date: Spring 2007

Of all the PS3 games we've seen in action, Assassin's Creed is the only one that really seems to take advantage of what the PS3 is capable of. As a twelfth-century assassin named Altair, you'll roam the crowded streets of Jerusalem, seeking out your marks in an effort to halt the Third Crusade. Aside from stunning graphics, crowds that react realistically and gameplay that combines the best elements of Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed promises an innovative new control scheme (different buttons for each limb?) and a historical setting we haven't seen much before in a game.

But the thing that has us really intrigued happened near the end of the E3 demo, when the hero was killed. The screen flickered and was gradually replaced by a "System Failure" message, which gave way to a first-person view of what looked like a futuristic hospital room. What does it mean? We've got some ideas, but we're excited to see what Ubi's really planning with this one.

Try to solve the mystery of Assassin's Creed yourself, here.
