I personally prefer SBeast's Dragonborn metal, he was the first (released his ~3 months before the game came out.. :P)

How can this list exist without Metroid Metal on it? Viking guitar rocks, too. Also, ArtificialFear does my favorite Zelda metal covers.

Where they aren't necessarily the best covers, Bit Brigade's line-ups are definitely something to check out. They cover the entire soundtracks to games like Mega Man 2, Ninja Gaiden, and Castlevania while a guy sits on stage with a NES and a projector and speedruns the whole game.

Kingdom Hearts - Utada Hikaru "Simple And Clean" (Rising Sun Rock Mix)
  • Corsair89 - July 22, 2014 6:08 p.m.

There are so many great metal covers floating around the internet. OC ReMix - Final Fantasy: Random Encounter: OC ReMix - BadAss: Boss Themes - OC ReMix - BadAss: Boss Themes Volume II - Mega Beardo - Ledgent of Zelda - Ryuichi Katsumata and Taro Bando - F-Zero X Guitar Arrange - I'm not sure if it technically counts as a cover because it's the original artists who remixed it, but the F-Zero X Guitar Arrange album is incredible none the less.

Ninja Gaiden 2 @ 5:49 until the end is BOSS!
  • pl4y4h - July 22, 2014 4:47 p.m.

Not my style of music, but the talent is real

Thanks for posting this. The Kingdom Hearts cover was very good, had to add that one to my favorites. Another metal song that's one of my favorite is from the guys over at OC Remix, it's called "Final Fantasy 7_The Omen of Jenova - By Nekofrog" and another good one by him is "Mega Man 2_Wily's Requiem." Nothing shapes up a song like adding some double-bass and power chords;)

Oh, I thought this was about game soundtracks that came in steelbook covers. Silly me.
  • _--_ - July 22, 2014 2:35 p.m.

--my all time favorite> --maybe its not 'metal'(but it's close) --before you rag on the video quality --look at the post date --2005(who was 'really' using youtube in 2005? haha)

Anything Charlie Parra does is amazing, the Zelda one isn't one of my favourites of his (probably Ripe Seeds) but a great article nonetheless

Everyone should just visit Dwelling of Duels DOT com. They hold a themed competition every month for the best game covers, and many submissions are rockin' metal songs.
  • RODTheMaster - July 22, 2014 9:03 a.m.

Appologies. Dwelling of Duels DOT net.
  • keziasfortress - July 22, 2014 8:54 a.m.

Vomitron's Contra and even Megadriver's Contra kicks that one's ass. Vomitron's video game covers are even better than Powerglove IMHO.
  • MeanwhileGuy - July 22, 2014 8:23 a.m.

Glad to see two of my favourites, 331Erock and Powerglove up there. Though to be honest, you could have populated this list entirely of their stuff, particularly Erock's covers of Skyrim, Halo, Final Fantasy, Battlefield, Chrono Trigger, Monkey Island, Duke Nukem, God of War, Guile's Theme, Assassin's Creed, Metal Gear and Mortal Kombat.
  • lingabao - July 22, 2014 8:19 a.m.

Ummmm ... how about Zelda cover by System of a Down!?!?
  • lingabao - July 22, 2014 8:23 a.m.

Ooops ... a quick search shows that it was Joe Pleiman and not System of a Down. Worth a listen anyway ...
  • chriszewski - July 22, 2014 1:08 p.m.

Rabbit Joint is the name of the band. System of a Down is the album title. Lots get it confused, but yes, worth a listen.
  • aaron171 - July 22, 2014 8:15 a.m.

Wow, a metal game theme cover and nothing from Doom? I'm disappointed.
  • chriszewski - July 22, 2014 7:43 a.m.

Been a subscriber to Charlie Parra del Riego for years. Nails that late 80's - early 90's feel. I know its not a cover but its the only thing i could think of: Blind Guardian - Sacred Worlds Not only is it a fantasy-metal theme song (a-la Dragonforce), there is a quest in-game to attend the concert. A CG concert. With various monster mobs in attendance. Throwing out devil horns. Yeah.
