''England's world wide reputation for beaver-toothed tea sipping softies'' . . . . it's funny that this is genuinely what people imagine us english to be like... they must all be quarantined off away from the foster drinking ape-men that populate the majority of our land mass

On a basic concept level, the Shadow of the Colossus entry makes the most sense. Fighting huge mechs SotC-style would be all kinds of awesome, and it'd be pretty much the only way an under-equipped lone fighter could hope to take one down. Besides, the Colossi are pretty much giant robots made of flesh and stone as it is, making them fully and blatantly machines wouldn't be a massive leap. As a final point in favor of the idea, futuristic stuff could make the battles even more exciting. The Colossi couldn't have been armed with futuristic weapons and movement systems, but giant mechs could definitely have those elements.

"Dead Space set... during the 1960s moon landings" so basically the movie Apollo 18?
  • SamuelJamesRiley - July 14, 2014 2:39 p.m.

*googles Apollo 18* wadda ya know, that is pretty similar. I'm guessing it didn't feature Neil Armstrong blowing Buzz Aldrin's arms and legs off though, right?

Anybody remember GTA London? While Bedrock is no doubt a great alternative, I know I'd like to see a return to this increasingly irrelevant (in the eyes of slab-brained youngsters) period in history.

Hitman was already set in WW2 Europe. It was called Death to Spies (and Death to Spies II), and it was unbelievably fantastic.

Thanks for the tip. I'll investigate post-haste, or yanno, whenever it goes on Steam sale. I'm not 100% sure, but i think i might have just acquired the power to wish things into existence. If only i'd written about that Swedish Volleyball Sim for the Oculus Rift. Curses.

Well it's been around since '07, and I'm sure it's not 'too' expensive on Steam. But expect a much harder go of it than the actual Hitman series. You're doing similar work, but it's far more challenging. I knew a few games journalists who were surprised at Death to Spies III. It died a long time ago, and recently just very spontaneously sprung back into life with a demo released on it's long-forgotten website. The third iteration is set during the Cold War, and apparently you run around as 3 Russian agents instead of just one.

Sounds good to me. I can't imagine there are too many Cold War titles (aside from RTSs) where you get to play as the Russians. As for the earlier games in the series, I'm a bit of a WW2 gaming nut as it is, and on top of that i've been playing a metric ton of stealth titles in the last couple of weeks. Death to Spies sounds like a match made in heaven. Thanks again.

    No problem, happy to help.

GTA Bedrock would be fantastic. And presumably in the Total War game each side would have it's own uniform of ill-fitting replica kit, with size of pie stain indicating rank?

Well, either that or by administering a simple IQ test. Lowest scorer = The Fanmaster General
