I think its the minions that do it. I love dead space. But.the final fight in ds2. Trying to destroy an endless amount of.minions while trying to not ket the boss get you and trying to attack something off in the distance.

Bosses that can only be hurt with a brand-new weapon that I've never had a chance to use until just now, and is wielded totally differently from the weapon(s) I've been using the entire game, so not only do I have to fight the hardest fight in the game, I have to do it while learning new controls and techniques instead of using the skills I've been honing to perfection since the beginning of the game. Tomb Raider: Legend and God of War I, I'm looking at you.

Great list, because every one of the things annoys the shit out of me.

Can't stand tough bosses that have really long cutscenes before the fight that you can't skip. So if you repeatedly die, you have to wait for the cutscene over and over.
  • sadowolf - March 28, 2014 6:48 p.m.

This. I hate this so much. I hate even more when you just can't skip cutscenes at all in a game. In this day and age that's inexcusable.

Honestly I found Seth from S/SFIV a lot tougher than Shao Khan in MK9. Shao Khan was easy enough to take down if you kept your distance and spammed ranged attacks but Seth had cheap moves that could seemingly predict when you were about to go and cut you off. My biggest peeve is the huge glowing weak spots. Shadow of the Colossus pulled it off as the spots didn't glow until you were on top of them with sword in hand but it seems that so many bosses proudly show off their big flashing orange eyes/knees/joints/tumors/butthole without even trying to conceal it. The "Tank" - Always follows the same pattern. Huge bulky creature charges towards you, dodge, they hit a wall, armour cracks. Repeat X3. And the other - giant fucking spiders. Spiders are creepy, we get it. Stop making us fight them as early bosses.

Seth is pretty easy. He still falls for focus attacks most of the time. He'll also wall jump from far away giving you time to react with an anti-air. If he has ultra and he's knocked you down, you can mash buttons before you wake up, and he'll waste his ultra and you can block. Shao Khan is a cheap asshole though.
  • CitizenWolfie - March 31, 2014 4:48 a.m.

He's ok if you keep up the offence and don't allow him to build up any special but I still find he has every cheap move in the book - sonic boom out of nowhere, dragon punch which cancels your combos, dhalsim low blow that hits from across the screen and chun-li rapid kicks. Shao Khan is cheap but once you figured out the pattern it was easy. Seth seemed to use every counter to whatever you were doing before you were doing it

I'm so sick of the rule of 3. It's like 3 hits, boss goes down, comes back 3 hits, comes back slightly different 3 hits. Nintendo is very guilty of this.

Dark Souls had some fantastic boss fights, but I remember Gravelord Nito being guilty of the minion thing by summoning regenerating skeletons. If you didn't have a holy weapon to keep the buggers down for good they were a pain the ass during the fight. That said, Nito is a giant pussy once you've dealt with them.

Things I hate have to be super over powered cheap unblockable attacks and attacks from off screen . Strangely one of my worse boss battle experiences was Gundam Eypon from the Gundam wing fighting game.

Who's the boss pictured in the "unkillable" trope?
  • pl4y4h - October 17, 2013 4:05 a.m.

The water temple boss from FFX whose name is...*looks it up*...Geosgaeno
  • Ohmamarocks - October 17, 2013 4:10 a.m.

Right! Stoopid me... I actually loved the payback fight, I remember it being way more fun than say... Seymour Flux. Thanks for your answer
  • pl4y4h - October 17, 2013 8:21 a.m.

Good god flux. He was infuriating for way too long (especially that stupid cutscene before hand I had to watch over and over)......until I learned that poison is the one thing he is actually susceptible to lol
  • Ohmamarocks - October 17, 2013 9:10 a.m.

That cutsceeene! "Star of the Zanarkand Abes! Didn't anyone tell you?" Argh. I didn't know that poison fact, on my second playthrough, I went with Overdrive for every aeon, that was a bloodfest! :)
  • bang1221 - October 17, 2013 9:39 a.m.

i thought flux was easy i just thought it was his timing that made him a pain. He literally came out of no where when you just fought a different version of him like 10 minutes ago.

The Metal Gear series has the best boss battles in gaming. Each character has a human yet mytical touch. From Pyscho mantis..all the way to crying wolf. Where in the end the robotic versions can turn into hot females :)
