So no black ops? That can't be good
  • needles - November 9, 2012 12:52 p.m.

That is because black ops sucked gorilla balls.

Ya know, Black Ops wasn't that bad....
  • needles - November 12, 2012 4:56 p.m.

Black Ops was very good. But in comparison to MW1 and MW2 if kind of sucked.

I don't mind the multiplayer - in fact, I like it- but I've always loved the campaigns in COD. I've bought everyone of the games (even the xbox version of COD2... I'll miss you, Brooklyn) They may be a little short, especially nowadays, but I find them endlessly repeatable. The only thing that ever bothered me was when you blow up the Eiffel tower. It's a little too "Team America" for my tastes (I'm not an American, so maybe I'm more sensitive to this) but blowing up a world monument should be an icky moment, not an "oorah!" one. However, there have been so many amazing moments in this franchise that I can overlook that one flaw (and Black Ops one's really abrupt ending... with a really, really big flag) Oh, wait, I didn't mean to complain! Dang! What I mean to say is, I love this franchise, and I'm super excited for Black Ops 2! Right, yes.

I miss Brooklyn too. :'[ *comfort hug*

Black Cats from W@W and the prison escape from Black Ops were both awesome moments, but this list is still awesome. I never played Call of Duty 2 (all of it) or 3.

Makes me want to play a CoD game, but I'm not a multiplayer gamer, so buying one would be a waste. Maybe I'll rent one sometime and just play the campaign.

Play the first and second. They had more focus on single player back then, and I'm hoping they will focus that much on it again instead of that boring multi player.

In the first CoD's expansion pack - United Offensive - you're a British flyboy in a bombing craft. The entire level is downright amazing. You use every available turret - top, sides and even bottom - then drop bombs on the targets yourself, only to have your plane catch on fire then get sucked out the back when it breaks in half as you freefall down behind German lines.

All great moments, for sure. One of my favorites, if not the most excited, was the level in World at War where you had to crawl through the fountain of bodies and eventaully meet with Reznov. The pacing afterwards was fantastic, with shooting the Nazi's during a plane passing overhead and racing through a burning building afterwards. Come to think of it, that game might've been the best campaign on CoD I've played, next to Modern Warfare.

thank you matt for restoring my faith in humankind .the other gr editors say cod is bad but you proved it to be good althought I think you missed out some other good moments like the bit where gaz says "i like to keep this for close encounters" with the shotgun. badass

I gotta say my favorite CoD moment was the end of Modern Warfare when Price slides you that pistol. It was genuinely badass, and at the time a very fresh way to end a game. It's hard to compete with Ghillies in the Mist, but that's just my thought.

Great article overall, I haven't played the MW3 campaign, so I can't vouch for their placement on the list, but I'm sorta shocked to not see "No Russian" on this list. Slaughtering innocents to maintain cover with the enemy, check. Fighting your local law enforcement/comrades, check. Being killed as a scapegoat and realizing your cover was blown LONG ago, check :( That hit me harder than General Shephard's betrayal IMO.

#1 should be used as a case study in proper level design. Some more standout moments for me were the level (Can't remember if it was CoD 1 or 2) where you and your squad board the German ship disguised as the enemy, with one guy in your group who speaks German doing all the talking. You were supposed to retrieve something from down in the bowels of the ship, and of course while you are in there, your cover is blown and you have to fight your way back off the ship. I thought it was a great mix of pacing. Also, the sniper mission in MW, where you shoot the pilot out of the chopper and you have to run as it comes crashing down on you. I'm hauling ass, and the thing sounds like it's right on the back of my neck. My partner tells me to hit the deck. I go prone and turn around to look, and right as I turn around the helicopter blade slowly comes to a stop about an inch from my face. It's funny because that chopper sequence today would just be another overdone set piece, but at the time, man was it awesome.

The tanker mission from Modern Warfare was pure awesomeness. It just felt like you were the best of the best when you completely neutralize the ship and the enemy don't even realise until it's too late.

Couldn't agree more with number 1! Awesome level :P
