Were the people you metin the PS3's virtual world so creepy that you decided to run away from Home? If so, Sony wants you to know things are different... better, and it wants you to give it a second chance.
Early users of the PlayStation Home online community likely have memories of waiting interminably just to use virtual bowling alleys or pool tables, with nothing much to do except stand around and perform the same animated emotes over and over again. But fast forward a couple years and things have changed, and Sony is now on a mission to improve Home's reputation.
PlayStation Home director Peter Edward said in a recent interview with Develop, "I hear all the time 'I logged on when it first launched but there was nothing there' - but I urge people to go back on there. It's been two years. We were always very proud of what we had achieved for launch, but we're the first to admit it was basic back then."
There have been numerous advancements made to the Home community, including dedicated social spaces formajor titles, and built-in mini-games. In the two years since launch, Home "has come on in leaps and bounds," said Edward.
"[Home] is vibrant, full of cool content and great games to play. It’s free – those who aren’t going in there are really missing out. If you think Home is what it was two years ago, do yourself a favor and have another look, you won’t be disappointed. There are more than 17 million active Home users currently on board with the cyber living space, but millions more people own a PS3 and aren't tuning in."
