Ex Call of Duty strategist opens Robotoki studio

Robert Bowling has been keeping busy since since leaving his post as Call of Duty's creative strategist. This week, the former Infinity Ward alumnus told Game Informer he is striking out on his own to head a new “developer development studio” called Robotoki.

“I wanted to create an environment where the creative vision holders held complete control over their work and could guide and maintain it from concept to execution," he explained, adding the studio will be completely self-funded and run by like-minded partners.

For Robotoki's first trick, Bowling said the studio will be developing a title for next-gen consoles, PCs, and mobile devices that will focus on “creating a universe first, experiences second, and game mechanics last”. He noted the project will blur the lines between video game systems, allowing players to add to their experience over various platforms.

Speaking to Robotoki's approach to gameplay, he added: “Our focus is creating an experience that is no longer strictly single player, strictly co-op, or strictly multiplayer, but adapting the strengths of each of these into a unique experience that is fueled by the actions and contributions in each.”
