Sci-Fi Bargains Of The Week

Welcome to the weekly SFX Bargains round up… Once again we’ve braved the elements and risked life and limb to bring you cheap stuff from across the land. Well, we clicked some mice and wandered around some shops a bit. But we did it for you... Read on for some cheap as chips sci-fi goodies.

First up we’ll remind you of a couple of general offers still running; Play has a 2 Blu-rays for £10 offer on, including such titles as Highlander, Flash Gordon and Splice . Play also has a 2 DVDs for £5 offer as well with titles including The Crow, Small Soldiers and Next . Zavvi has a Blu-ray offer on too; 3 Blu-rays for £18 , with a range of films and TV shows including Tremors, Being Human series one and the excellent Pontypool . Check ’em out; there’s bargains to be had.

Next we have a few suggestions from Amazon. Steven Spielberg’s classic UFO tale Close Encounters Of The Third Kind is available in a 30th anniversary Blu-ray for £10 . The film can also be yours on DVD for £3.99 . Duncan Jones’ brilliantly claustrophobic first film Moon is on Blu-ray for £7.49 . You can also pick the film up on DVD for just £4.35 .

With the new The Thing prequel ( reviewed here ) out on DVD and Blu-ray on Monday we thought we’d point you in the direction of the original ’50s film The Thing From Another World . This classic sci-fi movie can be your on DVD for £3.97 . The more recent, but still classic, ’80s John Carpenter version is available on DVD for £3.89 and on Blu-ray for £7.99 .

To the supermarkets next, and Asda had a few recent DVD releases going cheap; The Adventures Of Tintin: Secret Of The Unicorn, Contagion, Troll Hunter and Midnight In Paris were all a tenner each. We also saw Super 8 , parts one and two of the last Harry Potter film, Captain America, Thor and Cowboys and Aliens for £7 each. On the Blu-ray shelf we saw Psycho for £5 , The Adjustment Bureau, The Lost Boys and the individual Back to the Future movies for £10 each.

Asda still has its promotion on Disney DVDs and Blu-rays running. DVDs are 2 for £15 and Blu-rays are 2 for £20 , with films as Wall-E, The Incredibles and Monsters, Inc. as well as many other well known non-sci-fi titles available. Amazon are still running their slightly cheaper Disney offers as well; click here for the 2 Blu-rays for £16 page and here for the 2 DVDs for £13.99 page.

Morrison’s had a load of Reel Hero limited edition cover DVDs including Shaun Of The Dead, Hellboy 2, Kick-Ass, The Hulk and Serenity , all for £5 each. The Terminator, Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes, The Iron Giant, Stardust, The Goonies, Sunshine and Daredevil were all even cheaper at just £3 each. Morrison’s also had the Adventures Of Tintin animated boxed set, which features all 21 original animated adventures, for £10 if you’d prefer a more traditional animation style than the new film.

Lots of finds from our forumers this week, starting with Buffster , who found that WOW-HD (the site formally known as CD WOW) is selling DVDs on a 2 for £10 offer. With over 120 titles in the sale, including some TV boxed sets, it’s well worth checking out.

Jonemoongoose found Game Of Thrones in Blockbusters for £25 , but they didn’t say whether it was the DVD or the Blu-ray format.

Midnighter is back again this week with news that Captain America: The First Avenger, Cowboys & Aliens, Super 8 and Transformers: Dark Of The Moon were all being advertised as £5 each in Sainsbury’s. Sainsbury’s is also selling the new Tintin movie for a penny less than Asda at £9.99 and they’re saying they have a two-disc exclusive edition but we aren’t sure what makes it exclusive.

Midnighter had some toy news for us too; he spotted Character Builders Cyber Conversion Chamber for the unbelievably low price of £4.50 and the Junk TARDIS Play set for £10 in their local Tesco. Morrison’s also had the Dalek/Cyberman/Weeping Angel Army Building sets for £5 each and individual Micro-figures for £1 .

We had a big stack of suggestions from Radical Edward , he spotted this USS Enterprise pizza cutter over on Firebox. We’ve mentioned this item before on Bargains and while it’s a cool piece of tat, at £24.99 it isn’t exactly cheap. It’s far too pretty to actually use for pizza cutting, but we think it looks just lovely displayed on a shelf.

On the movie front Radical found an X-Files movie double bill on DVD for £4.49 , a Pitch Black, Doom, Riddick triple bill for £5.99 and this Day The Earth Stood Still/ Independence Day two-pack for £4.99 . Radical also shared news of some X-Men box sets. The Quadrilogy set, containing the three X-Men films and the Wolverine prequel, is available for £7.20 from Amazon and the ultimate X-Men collection , which has the same as the previous set but also includes the recent First Class prequel movie, can be yours from Play for £15 . Amazon has this set on Blu-ray for £24.99 .

From the land of TV, Radical sent us links for Fringe season three on Blu-ray for £17.99 , The Walking Dead season one on DVD for £10.49 and season one of Dark Angel , again on DVD , for £8.99 .

The ever reliable Silverfox67 is back this week with Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 on DVD for £4.95 from Zavvi.

Boo from the forum sent us a message saying she spotted Captain America: The First Avenger on DVD from Play for £6.99 .

And while we were at Play we spotted two cool Captain America tops; this hoodie for £17.99 (down from £39.99 ) and this T-shirt also for £17.99 (down from £24.99 )

As usual if you find anything we’ve brought you this week cheaper somewhere else please mention it in the comments section below. We want as many bargains ideas for our readers as we can get. And remember; if anyone out there spots a sci-fi bargain they want to share then please pop over to the forum and mention it in the relevant thread. This thread is for movie bargains and this one is for TV bargains and finally this thread is for any random bargain you might find. Keep your eyes peeled for great offers for your fellow SFXers and maybe your find will be in the bargain list next time.
