Did you base your impression of the theme on any particular film or novel?
Ogawa: When I think back to the time we started creating plans and concepts for Sonic on Wii I was playing God of War, Prince of Persia and Shadow of the Colossus. I had read in one article that the team who made Shadow of the Colossus were inspired by stories like Sinbad, in which a lot of big objects and creatures appear so that's where I got my inspiration from.
You mention that you wanted Wii Sonic to be very different from the Xbox and PS3 version of the game. Why did you decide not to release a standard-style Sonic game on Wii?
Ogawa: There are two reasons. The first is that the release date for the Xbox 360 version of Sonic was pretty close to the Wii version, so we needed to create something completely different so we didn't have two similar-style games releasing at the same time.
The other reason is that I thought that although creating another game in the Sonic Adventure series would be good for some people, we also knew that some Sonic fans were asking for a new Sonic game.
So that's what I wanted to do this time. Also, the console was called Revolution before it got the name Wii, and I wanted to revolutionize Sonic with this title, as Nintendo intended to revolutionize their hardware and games.
