Shigeru Miyamoto has claimed he's on a mission to include Pikmin in everything he can possibly put them into.
The name Shigeru Miyamoto carries a lot of weight for Nintendo fans. This is the man known for creating some of the biggest and most iconic games of all time, like Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Nintendogs, and Donkey Kong, as well as playing vital roles in the creation of the likes of Pokemon, Metroid Prime, and Kirby. And yet, despite being the father (or uncle, I guess?) of all those iconic series, he has a clear favorite child in what is his quite literally smallest franchise – Pikmin.
Before The Super Mario Bros. Movie (which features a Pikmin statue, by the way), Miyamoto's first foray into filmmaking was the excellent Pikmin Short Movies. Despite only having four mainline games in 25 years (with the last two of those having 9 and 10 year waits), the critters have appeared all over the place since, making appearances in Super Nintendo World theme parks before Donkey Kong even joined and taking care of the data transfer between Wii and Wii U.

When asked if the Pikmin in the film was something he personally requested, Miyamoto says, "I wouldn’t say a request. More like a mission."
He explains, "I'm on a mission to try to include Pikmin in any kind of Nintendo product we put up. And obviously Pikmin can be [sic] appearing anywhere, but the idea, the setting of Galaxy really lends itself to having Pikmin be there as part of the world." He added that he "was waiting in anticipation for what kind of ideas came from Illumination."
Now let's put that effort into getting Pikmin 5 out before it reaches 10 years since Pikmin 4 was released.
