Summer may be drawing to a close, but instead of swapping your sunscreen for sweaters, why not extend your vacation by taking in the streets of medieval Venice or the mysterious ancient ruins of Crete? In Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, the new standalone entry in Focus Entertainment's critically acclaimed A Plague Tale franchise, you can do just that, as you unravel the history behind one of Requiem's most beloved characters.
Journey into the past
Set 15 years before the events of A Plague Tale: Innocence and Requiem, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy delves into the past of Sophia, the renowned pirate smuggler and captain of The Racasse who helped Amicia and Hugo De Runes escape Province in A Plague Tale: Requiem.
This standalone prequel follows the fierce young plunderer as she takes destiny into her own hands and sets out on an adventure to unravel the secrets of her past. Her journey pulls her toward the Minotaur's Island, a location that has been calling her since childhood, where she soon realizes that something about the island resonates deeply with her. Sophia soon finds her fate is intertwined with another, Theseus, allowing her to experience flashbacks of the Minoan era, where she will unearth the sun-kissed Mediterranean island's ancient mysteries in her search for answers.
Navigating the maze
Sophia's journey isn't straightforward. Hunted by many enemies, each drawn to the island in search of a mysterious treasure, Sophia must navigate a treacherous maze of deadly trials to unearth the answers she seeks—though that's part of the fun. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy lets you engage in brutal and dynamic melee combat, encouraging you to rely on your reflexes, tricks, and precision to unleash devastating strikes, master parries, and outwit your foes during deadly encounters.
Between fighting foes and facing lethal trials, you'll also be tasked with solving ingenious puzzles by manipulating light using a stolen Minoan sphere. It's not just your brawn that will be challenged, but your brain. (Those who need an extra helping hand can always consult their notebook for some guidance.) So if you're a fan of narrative-driven action adventures like Control, Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, and Hellblade 2, you'll likely take to the gameplay like a Minotaur to a labyrinth.
What's more, to ensure you can enjoy the adventure at your own pace, there are five difficulty levels to choose from, ranging from Narrative to Nightmare. Narrative mode is best for those who want to focus on exploration and the story, allowing you to automatically parry and dodge during combat encounters, making them less challenging. For those who want the ultimate challenge, Nightmare mode maxes out enemy aggressiveness and resistance, making your journey through the maze even more perilous.
Take in the sights
Between all this, there's plenty of time to stop and soak in the breathtaking sights of the Minotaur's Island. If you thought Province in Requiem was stunning, wait until you see Focus Entertainment's take on the Mediterranean. From the picturesque crystal-clear waters surrounding the island to the meticulous details of the island's ancient ruins, Resonance's richly detailed, graphically outstanding world begs to be explored.
Resonance: A Plague Tale is available for PC (through Steam and Xbox), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and it's included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscriptions.
