This narrative platformer from a husband-and-wife duo looks stunning, and you can check out a new demo for it on Steam right now
Journey through a mysterious land on birds, bugs, jellyfish, and flying cars
Vibrant, narrative-driven platformer The Journey Home game now has a Steam demo you can play right now, as revealed at the Future Games Show at Gamescom.
Developed and published by Joey's Entertainment, a Belgian studio comprising a husband-and-wife duo, The Journey Home is about Walter, a man who has no recollection of how he ended up in a mysterious realm beyond space and time. All he knows is that there's something there that calls to him and he must venture deeper to find out what it is.
The story itself is written by the wife of Joey's Entertainment's duo, USA Today best-selling author Sophie-Leigh Robbins. She's known for writing rom-coms but expect The Journey Home to be a more emotional tale of life and love, showing Walter at various stages of his life – it's apparently a bit of a tear-jerker.
That all sounds very vague and mysterious, but the Gamescom trailer does a great job of showing off how stunning the side-scrolling ethereal landscape is, with bizarre and colorful sights and a calming soundtrack. As part of the platforming journey, you'll have to swim, climb, and swing your way through world and you even get to drive a flying car and catch a ride from a jellyfish. It also features no loading screens, no cutscenes and a minimalistic interface to make the game as immersive as possible.
As mentioned, The Journey Home doesn't have a precise release date just yet, but the aim is for a late-2026 release on PC, with consoles potentially following later. Obviously, you should check out the demo if you're interested but make sure you also follow the developers on Twitter to keep up to date.
