Brave automatons and save your family in this steampunk horror adventure game from an award-winning art director
They Will Come is set to release on Steam in July of this year
Steampunk horror and adventure combo They Will Come has appeared at The Future Games Show Summer Showcase to show off what it's all about ahead of its July 2026 release on Steam.
We kick off with the background that during "a time of war," a boy must step up or lose his family. This all unfolds while some steampunk-style mechs stalk an automaton factory. As ever with the steampunk genre, imagine a vision of the Victorian times with technology advancements that don't leave the aesthetic behind.

What unfolds next is a conversation between a boy and his father, with the latter apologizing for what he's created and unleashed upon the world – something we're seemingly left to deal with as we see glimpses of the young 'un running from grim contraptions.
After that, we get glimpses of gameplay as a new voice takes over, telling us that our family has been captured and that it's best we give up to save them and the lives of countless others. While this unfolds, we see our young protagonist sneak around various factories to avoid harm.
Mind you, it doesn't look like we'll be powerless all the time. Some shots reveal that we'll control an automaton here and there, knocking lumps out of other robots unfortunate enough to cross our path.
And that's just some of what's to come. They Will Come is directed by award-winning art director Jeff Troutman, who has worked with the likes of Midway and Petroglyph over a career that's spanned more than 30 years. As such, there's plenty of experience here. With a July release currently set, you won't have to wait long to play it either.

I joined GamesRadar+ in May 2022 following stints at PCGamesN and PocketGamer.Biz, with some freelance for Kotaku UK, RockPaperShotgun, and VG24/7 thrown in for good measure. When I'm not running the news team on the games side, you'll find me putting News Editor duties to one side to play the hottest JRPG of 20 years ago or pillaging the depths of Final Fantasy 14 for a swanky new cloak – the more colourful, the better.
