Denshattack blends trains, Tony Hawk, and Jet Set Radio to bring you one of 2026's best games
It's on a 10% launch sale right now on Steam
The list of 2026's best games is pretty strong all-around, but how many of those games can say they feature trains doing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater moves while fighting giant mecha? Sitting at an 88 on Metacritic and a 98% Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam, Denshattack!'s exactly that.
Developed by Undercoders (Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara) and published by Fireshrine Games (Far Far West), Denshattack! is an action-packed game that sees you take the role of Emi Araki – a ramen delivery driver who gets thrust into the wild world of Denshattack, which blends train driving with performing death-defying tricks. In the game you'll race across Japan, take on rival train gangs, and bring the fight to a shady megacorp.
The game dons a gorgeous anime-inspired art style, a stacked English and Japanese voice cast featuring actors from Baldur's Gate 3, Final Fantasy 16, and 007: First Light, and – perhaps most crucially for a game this stylish – a banging soundtrack from legendary composers like Tee Lopes (Sonic Mania), Shoji Meguro (Persona), and Richard Jacques (Jet Set Radio).
But the frantic action-packed gameplay is the star of the show. While a fast-paced action game where you drive a train is already a good sell, the game features a Tony Hawk-style trick system, which allows you to chain combos throughout the stages. Each stage also features challenges, par times, and a score threshold, giving you plenty of reasons to replay stages to get that perfect run.
If you want to check the game out beforehand, fear not, as it's been a hit with streamers, including MoistCr1TiKaL whose video – simply titled "I Love Denshattack" – tells all. Top Twitch streamer Ironmouse also got a taste of the frantic gameplay firsthand earlier this week. Meanwhile Steam reviews are just as ecstatic as the Metacritic scores, with users saying, "This is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best games to come out this year," and "This game is incredible, genuinely a must play and a GOTY contender."
Denshattack feels like a lost Sega Dreamcast classic, which is pretty much the highest praise anyone can give an arcade game. It's available for purchase or wishlist now on Steam, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Plus, you can get it for a 10% launch discount right now on Steam until July 29, 2026, with console players getting a free train skin pack – including platform exclusive skins – until that date.
