Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy trailer reveals a much different Plague Tale game ahead of release
It's time to parry your foes and take them head-on
Asobo Studio has popped up at the Future Games Show at Gamescom with a new trailer to set the mood for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy ahead of the adventure game's imminent release.
The trailer itself gets a lot done during its 30-second runtime. Our few shots show protagonist and plunderer Sophia confidently creep or race through tombs as Asobo teases a "perilous odyssey," backed with several more shots of Roman-like foes walking by.

Release date: August 27, 2026
Explore the tale of Sophia in a prequel to A Plague Tale as you journey to the Minotaur's Island to take on deadly foes, find ancient secrets and more.
While Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a prequel to the other two Plague Tale games, it offers something quite different. While the first two feature Amicia and Hugo de Rune in a pair of games that are almost survival horror-like – featuring plenty of puzzles and creeping around to avoid rats and the like – this one focuses more on action. Sophia is a more capable fighter and can even parry attacks and land deadly finishing moves. This one reminds me more of Lara Croft than Plague Tale.
As for the story, Resonance is a prequel to the other two Plague Tale games, set 15 years before Requiem. So it goes, despite being on the run, a determination to uncover the secrets of your past leads you to Minotaur's Island. There are still the sort of puzzles to solve that you might recognize, though here you'll also face treacherous trails while fighting and staying one step ahead of the army that's hot on your heels. Interestingly, Asobo also teases a "terrifying creature hidden behind the myth" that will "soon resonate" with you.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is out August 27. That's just one day away.
