Maul – Shadow Lord features a very deep cut Star Wars: Battlefront Easter egg

Star Wars fans have been loving Maul – Shadow Lord as the new Disney Plus animated show delves deeper into the beloved Sith Lord's story. It's also packed full of Easter eggs and inside nods for viewers to enjoy, including a brilliant and very deep-cut Star Wars: Battlefront reference.

In the show's opening episode, we meet Spybot, Maul's droid accomplice who is fast becoming a fan-favorite. While he's a new character for the show, if you listen carefully you might notice something familiar about him.

After the season premiere dropped, one Redditor posted: "Making Spybot's blaster have the same sound effect as the clone sniper from the original battlefront was icing on the cake." As fans will remember, the Clone Sharpshooters were the Galactic Republic's sniper units in the original Star Wars: Battlefront game.

And as anyone who has played it will know, their blasters have a distinctive sound you won't forget. Or, as another viewer put it, "I knew it sounded familiar, that sound is engraved in my brain."

This isn't the only aural Easter egg in the show either as a new behind the scenes featurette also revealed that Maul voice actor Sam Witwer also voiced his own lightsaber. We're sure there will be more moments to spot as well as the season continues airing weekly on Disney Plus.
