After the success of Under Paris, Netflix has doubled down on its shark-themed content with a new movie called Thrash. And given the amount of shark cinema we've had since Jaws first wowed audiences, it's actually got a surprisingly unique premise.
Directed by cult horror director Tommy Wirkola, best known for the Dead Snow movies and Violent Night, the new film sees a small town overrun by sharks in the aftermath of a hurricane. Bridgerton actor Phoebe Dynevor leads the cast as a pregnant woman who's stuck in her car dealing with the infested waters.
If that wasn't enough to hook you, we soon find out the reason she's landed in jeopardy is because a meat truck crashed next to her, releasing a stream of blood in the water and attracting the finned killers. It's quite a fun thriller premise and it seems it mostly pays off, based on early reviews.

The cast is talented enough to make us care about these people – at least, to the point where we don’t want them dead – and Wirkola’s snappy direction makes their plight palpable."
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter's David Rooney calls it "enjoyable Netflix pulp." His review reads, "Nothing in Thrash is going to wow Steven Spielberg, and its adherence to plot logic is elastic to say the least. But as bloody, dumb shark thrillers go, it stays afloat, gaining some credibility from the natural disaster element."
Slash Film's Chris Evangelista gave it six out of ten, writing: "Sometimes you want to see a fine-tuned work of precision pop art like Jaws, and sometimes you just want to watch a CGI shark bite a guy on the ass."
However, not all the reviews are positive with Digital Spy's David Opie giving it just two stars. "What should be scary falls flat thanks to bizarre, choppy editing while the lines that should be funny don't always land because the tone varies wildly from scene to scene," his review reads.
