The Division's free beta waitlist will keep waiting for now

If you're on the waitlist for access to The Division beta, it sounds like you'll be waiting for a while longer. Ubisoft announced in a post to the game's official forum (opens in new tab) that "an unprecedented level of interest" in the beta means that it is unlikely to fling open the gates to non-pre-orderers any time today.

Access to The Division beta is guaranteed for folks who pre-ordered the game, so it's understandable that Ubisoft would want to avoid disrupting their experience by letting too many more players in at once - potentially messing up the servers. Or less charitably, Ubisoft may already have enough play testers to gather the data it wants, and thus doesn't mind holding back beta access as a carrot-on-the-stick to drive pre-orders.

At least you can watch Ubisoft stream the entire Division beta live (opens in new tab) without putting any money down. And if you do get your hands on a code by hook and/or modded out crook, make sure you read up on our The Division beta tips (opens in new tab).

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
