By Giancarlo Saldana published 25 January 2014

Wanna see what mobile games came out this week? Here are 10 of the best.

When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Here’s how it works.

What's out for mobile this week?

What's out for mobile this week?

This week's batch of mobile games features another mixed bag of games for every gaming palate. There may not be many big-named titles on our list this week (with the exception of one classic RPG), but each of these titles is original enough to hold on to your attention. Not to mention, most of them are free to try.

So grab your phone, tablet, or trusty thingamabob and start heading to the App Store or Google Play. Will you confirm purchase? We think you should.

Evil Moon Steampunk Defense (Free)

Evil Moon Steampunk Defense (Free)

As you might have guessed from its name, this tower defense title features a very steampunk aesthetic and a very evil moon. You need to aim this robotic satellite and shoot down enemy drones that start approaching your base. Additional towers and power-ups lend you a hand during the most difficult waves of enemies, but you also need to remember to upgrade them before it's too late. It's your typical TD game with a touch of steampunk machinery, I'd say.

Elementalist (Free)

Elementalist (Free)

Elementalist is a turn-based strategy game that features gesture controls that let you unleash spells on your foes. The more accurate you are in drawing all those attacks, the more devastating they'll be. Like most other games in the genre, you'll need to fend off foes and use your attacks wisely or risk paying for premium spells and items. Just don't draw the wrong thing...

One Button Sports (Free Android, $0.99 iOS)

One Button Sports (Free Android, $0.99 iOS)

One Button Sports uses just "one button" for all its games, but it provides you enough different sports-themed mini-games to keep you pressing that button. Sports like tennis and waterskiing test your timing and reflexes as you press and hold the button to score the most points or accelerate in time. A tournament mode, unlockables, and even online multiplayer are sure keep you coming back for more button-pressing good times.

In Fear I Trust ($2.99)

In Fear I Trust ($2.99)

Reading a scary text message is one option, but playing a psychological horror game like In Fear I Trust is probably a better way to use your phone to get scared. Playing with your fears, the game has you exploring mysterious locations and figuring out where you are and what you should be hiding from. Puzzles and a power to see things differently in your environment are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Foxtrot! ($1.99 iOS, $2.44 Android)

Foxtrot! ($1.99 iOS, $2.44 Android)

The hero of Foxtrot! is a papa Fox just trying to collect as many eggs as he can to feed his cubs back home. Putting dinner on the table isn't so easy as each level you'll play through has you dodging lasers, sharp saws, and even robotic ducks while challenging you with platforming puzzles to solve. Boss battles and some menacing enemies are sure to heat things up as well. Who knew foxes liked eggs so much?

Song Blaster (Free)

Song Blaster (Free)

If you're bored of just listening to all that music on your phone, why not turn it into a game? And no, not a rhythm game, either. Song Blaster turns your music into shooting levels that increase in intensity depending on how fast the song is going or how low the bass drops. The higher you score, the more songs you'll be able to turn into tracks. If you have a big music library and a good trigger finger, Song Blaster is right for you.

Motocross Meltdown (Free)

Motocross Meltdown (Free)

Motocross Madness challenges you to time your jumps carefully as your biker rides off ledges and performs tricks throughout different tracks. The game features plenty of single-player challenges and also offers a few online multiplayer freestyle modes. You can also upgrade your bike for better scores or purchase items to give you a boost during competitions. It's not cheating. It's winning.

Tales of Phantasia (Free)

Tales of Phantasia (Free)

Fans of classic Tales games can now play Tales of Phantasia for absolutely nothing on their iOS device. This mobile port ramps up the difficulty, so you may need to purchase some in-app items during some of the more intense battles. Classic visuals, a Japanese cast, and touch-screen controls await you on your journey. Just be careful not to die too often as it might literally cost you.

TowerMadness 2 ($4.99)

TowerMadness 2 ($4.99)

Tower defense games have you defending castles, bases, and even crystals, but TowerMadness 2 challenges you to keep your flock of sheep safe. You'll need to set up turrets all over your farm to keep pesky aliens away before they abduct all your fluffy friends. With a whole new arsenal of guns, over 40 levels, and even the ability to make your own towers, this is one TD sequel that packs a punch.

Lost Words (Free)

Lost Words (Free)

Each level in Lost Words has one word you need to find, and you get six chances to figure out what that elusive word is. As you make more words, the game will indicate whether you're on the right track and if certain letters belong in your final word. You can train your brain to come up with words on the fly in Classic Mode, or take challenges one after another in Arcade and even utilize items for some extra help. Word.
