Has Mario Kart lost its style?

Doom
Survival Horror is a great genre. But Doom was never meant to be that kind of game. Doom should just be about you, a double-barelled shotgun and an endless stream of cannon-fodder to obliterate. We had several iterations of old-school Doom before the series' reinvention on PC and subsequently Xbox. But it wasn't the same.

Too much flashlight-waving, darkness probing and cheap scares made some players start walking backwards through rooms. Why? Because so many things were programmed to jump out from behind you, it was actually easier to play it like that. A return to straight blasting with stunningly-rendered evil monsters running into your crosshairs would have been enough. Maybe next time.

Above: A definite style change. But despite the massive advance in quality, was it really improved?
