10,000 BC spears the US box office

While some can point to Roland Emmerich’s latest, bloated epic 10,000 BC underperforming at the box office, it still managed to rake in $35.7 million and drag in $60 million across the world in its first weekend. And that’s despite attracting some of the most scathing reviews of the year to date. Still, Warners will have to hope that the pic’s worldwide take keeps it afloat, as we have a bad feeling about the word of mouth on this one…

In second place, Martin Lawrence continued his mission to grab some of that sweet kiddie/tween cinema box office, teaming up with Disney channel favourite Raven Symone for College Road Trip. It made $14 million in its launch weekend. That shoved Sony’s thriller Vantage point down to third from second, and the movie added $7.5 million to its $51 million total. And last week’s champ, Semi-Pro, dropped even further, with a 60.9% fall in takings for a current score of $24.8 million.

Jason Statham and The Bank Job robbed fifth place, making off with $5.7 million, while The Spiderwick Chronicles hovered in the middle of the charts with a $4.8 million weekend and $61.7 million total so far. The Other Boleyn Girl, meanwhile, slipped from fourth to seventh, adding $4 million to its $14.6 million total.

So to the bottom of the charts, where Jumper fell to eighth with $72.5 million in the bank so far, Step Up 2 The Streets stepped down to ninth on a $3 million weekend and Fool’s Gold prepared to leave the top 10 with a $62.8 million haul.
