Zelda: Ocarina of Stupidity

Oh yes, just in time for Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s momentous rerelease this week, our buddy theswitcher is back with another piece of timely animated stupidity. Oh… poor, poor Link and Zelda. Hell, poor Ganon! This moronic weekly portion of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, brought to you by the bumbling gang of jackholes who gave the world Inspector Gadget and Captain N: The Game Master, is probably the worst thing to ever befall the land of Hyrule.

To call the animated depictions of Nintendo’s proud and timeless characters disrespectful is putting it lightly. The normally speechless Link was portrayed as a horny teenager with the dignified cadence of a Morning Zoo radio host, while the goodly Princess Zelda was demoted to Ice Queen. If you simply must watch this cartoon trainwreck, it’s highly recommended you do so via our video above. It trims the asinine fat, making a surprisingly pleasant eight minute chunk of laughable cringe.

Ganon very carefully knocking over chairs before yelling, "I'm VERY upset!" was fucking amazing.

Anyone else remember when that song was floating around Napster and credited to System of a Down?

That was horrifying yet hilarious but not in a good way.

"IT'S SMOOCHIN' TIME!" WTF? Seriously, I'm not a Zelda fan at all (Link is really just an emotionless hunk of meat, and I think some parts of the cartoon Link are actually an improvement) but why would you want a guy like THAT to be your rescuer? If I were Zelda I'd get a restraining order for Link. Also, is it wrong that I kinda want to bang cartoon Navi?

Link never got his kiss from the Princess in the cartoon, right? I think even in the beginning of this video when it shows them kiss, that clip is from an episode where some evil chick was disguised as Zelda. Maybe I'm wrong, but I remember watching this and not ever seeing him get it.

I looked forward to this show every Friday afternoon when I got home from school. I think it was the first or second grade. I haven't watched a full episode yet to see how it holds up now. I'm assuming pretty bad.

Ganon, defeated by the power of bees

I'm so glad I wasn't born when this show aired; it would have ruined my childhood.

I could not stop laughing at this. I guess "EXXXCCUUUSEEEEEE ME, princess!" is Link's catchphrase.

Gavo, this cartoon was made way before Epona was a cannon horse. Everyone else should also keep in mind that this cartoon was made in 1989. The signifigance to this fact being that it these cartoons were par for the course at that time. Look at shows like He-man, and such and you can see that this was what the audience and animators were used to making. Sure it is not very good but the fact that our writer called it disrespectful is in itself a bit harsh when you consider that many kids at that time loved it. Especially when you consider the time-frame of the show.

I thought this shame would stay silent forever. I should have known better.

My friends and I found a vhs with three of these episodes on it for 50 cents at goodwill last year (I actually recognized a lot of the scenes in the video above). Being Zelda fans and having never seen this before, we were curious. We now regret the mistake. The sad part is that we were sitting there watching this thinking that it couldn't possibly get any worse, and then the credits started rolling. It was simply horrifying; I will never look at Mario the same way again. And then there was 'bonus content' at the end. After watching both Link and Mario being disgraced, it was Sonic's turn. The makers of this film managed to ruin three of the most iconic video game characters of all time in under 90 minutes.

Since when is Epona called Catherine lol. This is quite hilarious. "Excuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, princess"
