Buick is not exactly the first car choice among the Xbox generation. But the General Motors brand thinks it can find 30-something car buyers with a new video-game promotion.

Buick is in the midst of a gaming competition it kicked off with EA Sports to coincide with its sponsorship of the Buick Invitational golf tournament, held last weekend. EA has trampled a new course for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 onto Xbox Live.

It will set you back 400 points (GBP 3.40 / EUR 4.65) and let you ping balls around the renowned Doral course. This green is nicknamed Blue Monster for its trickery, and has been home to lots of successes for Tiger Woods in recent times - helping him rack up total career prize money of around USD 76 million.

Sega's Football Manager 2008 has entered the UK's all-formats chart at number one this week, knocking EA's FIFA 08 off the top spot.

Accounting for 38 per cent of all PC titles sold in the past week, Sports Interactive's management sim is Sega's first multiformat number one title since last year's version of the popular football franchise.

EA Sports "Game Face" servers were not prepared for the traffic they recieved. How could EA not have prepared better for this?

The site that is supposed to host player images www.easportsworld.com has been down with an appology that states "In the meantime players can start a career with a regular game face golfer and still add a photo face head later". In other words pay now, play later.

Tiger Woods 08: Freeze Bug Discovered; Patch Coming (News)

As Andy noted in his review of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, there's a lock-up bug in the Henrietta Brockway event in the Tiger Challenge. The loading screen between the second and third holes freezes up, forcing gamers to reboot their Xbox 360.

We contacted EA, which confirmed the existence of the bug and the company provided a workaround: Hold down the A button while launching the game from the dashboard. [Ed. note: Since this story was first posted, we tried this method out, which enabled us to get past the freeze-up spot and complete the event.]

A fix to this bug is addressed in a patch that has already been sent to Microsoft for certification, which means it should be available soon.

Microsoft Corp. said on Wednesday it will pipe advertisements into a slate of popular sports video games from Electronic Arts Inc. including its best-selling "Madden" football franchise.

The deal, which also covers EA's "NASCAR," "Tiger Woods" golf, "NHL" hockey and upcoming "Skate" skateboarding games, is a significant win for Microsoft as it tries to build an early lead over rivals such as Google Inc. in putting ads into video games.

The deal is also the latest indication of increasingly cozy ties between Microsoft, the world's biggest software company and EA, the No. 1 independent video game publisher.
