Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays continue with the launch of Galaga, one of the most popular retro arcade games of all time. Originally released in 1981 by Namco, the addictive action shooter marks its 25 year anniversary with a next generation debut on Xbox Live Arcade on July 26.

From Joystiq.com : "Admittedly, the game is not going to blow your next-gen socks off in the graphics department, but it is fun to play if you're into this sort of game. Think Gauntlet meets the Marvel universe. At times we got caught up watching the cinematics, and would have rather watched a whole feature-length movie of those than try to whack our way to the end of the next level. Another bummer was the flying. Characters that can fly in the comics can fly in the game, although they hit an invisible ceiling at about 10 meters when outside. This is an unfortunate limitation, because when we hopped on Silver Surfer's cosmic board for the first time, it was tempting to just jet around the place and hang ten. Alas, we had to settle for surfing through hordes of enemies instead of the cosmos, since he kept hitting the ceiling"

Big guns, big announcements and a big, hairy man who made a film about a big, hairy ape. X06 was Microsoft's most assured stage performance yet, backing up a solid Christmas games line-up with a bunch of major new games and exclusives as it threw down the gauntlet to Sony just ahead of the PS3 launch.

Despite having stayed up all night to 'network' at Microsoft's swanky post-conference bash (the 30-minute queue for the barbecue drove us to drink, your honour), we dutifully hauled ourselves up at the crack of dawn to spar with Xbox top dog Peter Moore. On good form as ever, he attempted to explain what on Earth it is Peter Jackson's supposed to be doing, while promising more games for the masses and taking the now traditional swipes at Sony.
