Jon and Chip Carter of Tulsa World give their breakdown of the latest news happenings in the world of gaming. They let us in on the best of show winners from this year's E3, the happenings at the upcoming Penny Arcade Expo, the Square-Enix Fan Festival 2007 and the first North American winner of the professional Championship Gaming Series.
E3 is the biggest event in the gaming community, it has all the ingredients to make for a great event: mega-games, exciting announcements, upcoming titles, console rivalry, and much more. Not surprisingly, E3 was a big this time as well; what made the extra special is the fact that Sony had a point to prove to the world.
Microsoft sent out a press release to let Loot Ninja know that there will be discounts on three Xbox Live Arcade games this week.
Could Pac-Man and Frogger be to old school for the new Xbox 360 wireless controller.
Last week Microsoft put some order into Live Arcade by announcing Xbox Live Arcade Wednesdays, a new promotion which - funnily enough - sees Live Arcade receiving new titles on Wednesdays. Things jumped into action with Frogger appearing on Arcade on July 12, and so far it's been announced that Frogger will be followed by Cloning Clyde, Galaga, Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting and Pac-Man.
What better way to wake up than by playing some oldschool Frogger? Microsoft kept their promise and released the first game in their Xbox Live Arcade Wednesday program. For 400MP's you'll be able to enjoy Frogger with HD graphics and with Live functionality. Of course there's a free trial for those of you without MP's. Head over to Xbox.com for more info.
Nestled within the various Marketplace menus on the PartnerNet, IGN discovered a old-school quarter-devouring distraction. It was Frogger, the staple of greasy pizza shops and sweaty sports arenas everywhere. Its concept is simple. Taking control of a pixilated frog, he's guided across a heavily trafficked road and a river to safety in the bushes on the other side. The adventure isn't without obstacles. Sports cars and semi trucks threaten to squish Frogger into quivering bits. Once across the road, the river can only be navigated across by hopping across a series of moving logs and turtles. Like many of its early arcade predecessors, timing is key for getting high scores, and despite it's simple appearance and design the game requires plenty of practice to be successful.
