The PS3's 256MB of memory, half that of the Xbox 360, is the biggest challenge developers face when making games on Sony's console, Monster Madness producer Lee Perez has told VideoGamer.com.

Perez, who has worked closely on the development of Monster Madness and upcoming DS game Ninja Town, said that while the PS3 has half the memory of the 360, its Cell processor can in theory allow developers to "offset" those problems.

Speaking specifically about the unique challenges PS3 development presents, Perez said: "The biggest thing is the memory. The PS3 only has 256 megs of memory. The 360 has 512 so you have twice the memory when you load a level. Now the offset to that is the Cell processor, so if you understand and your engine can understand how to use the multiple cores in tandem you can offset that. Theoretically you can do a lot more, especially if you have a lot of physics objects because it's very math intensive, not memory intensive. So finding that sweet spot where your game does well in both and it takes advantage of its individual skills is tough."
It's every teenager's dream - you and three of your friends are left alone in the house, nay, alone in the neighborhood with nary an authority figure in sight. You've got free reign, no one to tell you what to do, and you're feelin' fine. Sounds pretty sweet, until the monsters show up. Insane, undead monsters. Then you and your friends are forced to run around all crazy, fending off the demon hordes with whatever you can get your hands on, trying to figure out just what the hell is going on. ...

Reports suggest that Monster Madness: Battle for Suburbia will be released for Xbox 360 and PC on 3rd April, 2007. In America, anyway.

Southpeak Interactive previously announced a February launch date when they signed as publisher for the game last summer.

Monster Madness, developed by Artificial Entertainment, is a top-down shooter in which four teenagers battle against a monster invasion in a peaceful suburban town. Using a classic comic-book style and tongue-in-cheek approach, it bears more than a passing resemblance to LucasArts classic, Zombies At My Neighbours.
One of the more interesting games we got to try out at E3 was Monster Madness, a cartoony, four-player overhead horror shooter in the vein of musty classics like Smash TV and Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Refreshingly simple but incredibly slick-looking, it lets players team up or fight each other as a squad of misfit suburban teenagers who appear to be the only survivors when their neighborhood is overrun by monsters.

Our trailer shows generous chunks of the game in action, including footage from ...
Undead creatures have taken over a neighborhood. All the adults have disappeared without a trace, leaving just four teenage misfits to puzzle out what happened. And in the case of Monster Madness, an upcoming top-down shooter from Southpeak, "puzzling out what happened" means "blasting monsters into bloody chunks."

At first glance, Monster Madness is a fast-paced, top-down shooter in the mold of old-school classics like Smash TV and Zombies Ate My Neighbors, with players able to aim in a ...
