LEGO Rock Band

LEGO Rock Band: Yes, it actually exists

WB Interactive to publish plastic brick music sim later this year

Seriously. It's happening. In what is either the pinnacle of cross-promotion genius or the most hateful indictment of modern gaming imaginable depending on your perspective, Warner Bros. Interactive (publisher of LEGO Batman) has just announced that it is working with TT Games (developer of the same) to bring a LEGOed-up version of Rock Band to 360, PS3 and Wii later this year. Backbone Entertainment will be helping out with a DS version.

Working in partnership with franchise creator Harmonix, TT will apparently be using the plastification of the series to create a more "family-friendly" version, presumably meaning that sweary songs are right out. Though to be fair, watching little LEGO avatars belt out Cradle of Filth would be hilarious. The only songs announced so far are Blur's Song 2, Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas, Boys and Girls by Good Charlotte, Pink's So What, and Europe's perennial drunken wailer, The Final Countdown.

So, opinions? Is the blending of the family-friendly LEGO franchise with the party-favourite music game a clever, natural progression of both franchises? Or is it just unnecessary, casual-baiting overkill? Let us know in the comments, and don't forget to check out all the screens right here.

Actually, I like the idea. The core gameplay of Rock Band is obviously rock solid (no pun intended) and the Lego thing will let them do all kinds of crazy stuff. Character creation would finally be worth doing, especially if they go all out with the 'pieces' you can make your dudes out of. Make a guy with 1 arm and no legs, why the hell not? Or literally build your guitar or bass or drums or mic out of legos... And of course in-game: Little Lego people rockin out on crazy Lego stages with crazy Lego instruments... Lego stuff exploding on star power (or whatever Rock Band's equivalent is)... The possibilities really are endless, and it's tons more original than the various band tie-ins of GH.

The first two guys went abit ott didnt they?
I hate the term family friendly really cause it seems like they're dumbing it down for parents... But it does look kinda cool if you ask me

This Is either the best idea ever or the worst.

A LEGO rockband game would work in my eyes, as long as the core game remains the same. As Lucretiel said, character customization would be fun. I think this game is going to suck up those parents who know their kid wants Rockband, but are warry about the music in it. This seems like a good mix, the fun of Rockband and the Awesome of LEGO.

That is ridiculous!!!! Pairing Lego and Rock Band is a terrible idea!! This is the worst example on capitalizing on the casual market ever!

I can understand copying the Stars Wars, Batman, and Indiana Jones movies into LEGO games, but copying another game into a LEGO game? I bet they thought this would own up the butt... here I have an idea let's make a SIMS game about people playing GH and then lets make a copy of that game into a LEGO game! It will be called LEGO SIMS Guitar Hero Fun!

LEGO RockBand seems pointless, but if you can integrate it into RB2, maybe choose to use LEGO characters and sets with regular ones, and if the songs aren't all super crappy, I'd buy it. Stand-alone, I doubt I'd buy into it, though.

Are they going to start spamming the Rock Band franchise?

This might be awesome.

This 'might' be awesome, but I mean....come on. It's about as cheap as Nintendo re-releasing their good titles on the Wii with 'new motion control' also known as a 'port.' This would be a good idea for DLC, but not something to justify spending an ass-load of money on. CLEIP? You have no problem saying 'fucking' but 'hell' is too vulgar, eh? No offense, just funny.

This will be a major overkill. I am looking forward to DJ Hero and maybe the Beatles, but this is horriable.
Dudeman47  - 7 months 15 days ago
I think that's pretty comical and a bit strange at the same time. Although it sounds fun, I'm going to be really disappointed if they don't have any songs that I really like, despite the negative impact it might have on children even though it's a lego based game.

very...odd idea to say the least but im rather curious as to how it will turn out
key0blade  - 7 months 15 days ago
either this is gonna be REALLY good or REALLY bad for the series

I totally agree with Giant Bomb and say that they should make all their songs puns on the fact that they're bricks, (Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull?) or it should just be Rock Band 1 and 2 completely backwards compatible so that we actually CAN see them do Cradle of Filth.
