Let's Catch

Throwing a real ball is exhausting

So, a real baseball or a digitised one? It’s really a question of circumstance. A sunny park and a few mates and you’ve got yourself a catch on. But what of rainy days? Or the friendless? Or those banned from public places after that misunderstanding with the dog last March? Developer Prope’s buoyant catch-’em-up is a year-round remedy for a grumpy face.

A finely tuned throw. The tactile pinch of A and B to seize the ball. A Sega blue sky. Yuji Naka and co. even toss in some well-rounded avatars to keep you company, the characters spilling their back story guts as you keep a rally going. In the Japanese version we thought they were just saying “well done” over and over – turns out they were talking about divorce and woe. Sob!

With a Hot Potato Toss mode and four-player toss-offs (hmm, that didn’t come out right), it may seem a little slight at 1,000 points. However, six months on we still find ourselves happening upon the Japanese original and enjoying it all over again. Plus, having a Let’s Catch save file instantly unlocks some of the harder secrets in Let’s Tap. Summer may not be the best release time for Let’s Catch; when you have to defrost your baseball in winter, it’ll make a lot more sense.

As long as Yuji Naka stays busy, maybe he'll accidentally make a new sonic game.
