Tuesday Link-A-Mania

After the Weekender, the website finally starts getting back to normality, with news about Fantastic Voyage , Smallville , Primeval , Good Omens and more…

Cameron Chooses His Fantastic Voyage Director
Night At The Museum director Shawn Levy is set to call the shots on the James Cameron-produced remake of Fantastic Voyage , according to Deadline . The original film featured a bunch of scientists being shrunk and injected into the body of a dying scientist in an attempt to save him. The new film would recreate the innards of the scientist’s body using CG. Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Levy is also involved as a producer developing a big screen version of The Mister Men .

New Avengers Girl
We’re talking about the Joss Whedon-directed movie version of the Marvel comic, by the way, not the new Mrs Peel. Variety is reporting that How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders will be playing a SHIELD agent called Maria Hill in the big-screen superhero mash-up. Smulders was previously in the running to play Wonder Woman when Whedon was on that project: he included the note, “Sorry, Cobie” in his announcement that he was off the project. In the Marvel Universe, Hill became Nick Fury's second-in-command who took over as Director of SHIELD when Fury went missing during the Civil War storyline.

Unknown Director To Helm Harker
That’s unknown as in he made the film Unknown , not that nobody has heard of him. According to Deadline , Warners Bros has snapped up a script that’s a new version of the Dracula story, that will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who also made Orphan . The script for Harker is said to relocate Bram Stoker’s spooky tale to England where Jonathan Harker is tracking the monster on behalf of Scotland Yard.

Good Omens To Be Made Into a Four-Part TV Series
Just in case you weren’t tuned into SFX ’s Twitter feed this week while the SFX Weekender 2 was taking place, two bits of news were announced at the event. First up, Terry Pratchett revealed that his legendary 1990 book collaboration with Neil Gaiman, Good Omens , is set to be made into a four-part TV series. Although he revealed no other details, is saying that the ex-Python and former BBC journalist-turned-scriptwriter Gavin (The Borrowers) Scott are “in talks” to write the script.

K9 Set For A Second Series
The other bit of newsiness that ws reported on the SFX Weekender Twitter feed came from K9 co-creator Bob Baker, who has, of course, been involved in the new Australian-made Doctor Who spin-off featuring a regenerated metal mutt. Baker revealed in his panel that contracts for a second series of the show were being signed that very weekend.

Smallville Finale
Smallville will conclude its ten-season run with a two-hour finale episode, according to TVLine . In a press release, showrunners Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders said, “Paying homage to ten seasons is no small task, and wrapping up each character and story arc has been extremely important to everyone involved in the show. We’re excited to be able to make the final moments of Smallville a television event, as the character we’ve grown up with makes his legendary transformation.”

UK SF TV Weekend Ratings
Primeval managed to pull back a few hundred thousand viewers for the final episode of series four, with a total of 3.596 million tuning in – still not a great figure for prime time Saturday night on ITV, and a shame considering the episode was possibly the best of the run. Meanwhile on BBC3, Being Human was a slightly down with 1.258 million (last week it was a 1.43 million) but it’s still following the pattern of being slightly up on the equivalent episode last year (1.017 million for series two’s third episode). It’s still, by far, one of the channel’s most-watched shows.

Jeri Ryan For Mortal Kombat
Blastr has picked up on a Tweet from former Seven-Of-Nine Jeri Ryan which reveals that she’s reprising her role as Sonya Blade in the new digital series of Mortal Kombat that’s currently in production. Ryan starred in director Kevin Tancharoen’s unofficial Mortal Kombat: Rebirth trailer last year, which helped him get the gig on the new digital series. IGN is reporting that Michael Jai White will also be returning as Jax.
