Yeah, it seems that in a recent interview with Game Informer, Microsoft Studios President Phil Spencer has been bandying about the platform holder's apparent strength in fresh new IP for the hardcore player, while simultaneously giving Sony a bit of a kicking in that area. Also, sky green, grass blue. Says Spencer of new IP:
That will be the Crytek who won over core gamers with famously tech-pushing, innovative FPS like Far Cry and the Crysis franchise, and who are now excitingly... developing an arm-waving Kinect game for Microsoft. But you know, a violent one, so that's cool, right?

Presumably MS has also been ensuring core gamer love over the last couple of years' E3s with all of those fresh new announcements cleverly disguised as absolutely nothing. And you know, building the hype for said invisible games by sticking its fingers in its ears and going "Lalalalala!" whenever complaints of another tedious raft of casual pap have arisen.
Moving on slightly, Spencer bolstered Microsoft's position as the premier vendor of brand new hardcore gaming experiences by giving Sony a poke:
"They've done a great job at selling old franchises with HD remakes. Microsoft does not want to sell gamers something they have completed already"

So yeah, if you bought Halo Anniversary, know that it was against Microsoft's express wishes. You bounder.
