TalkRadar Clip 'o the Week: The Norwegian King of Names

Seriously, we know you’re busy people! We also know a lot of you reading GamesRadar haven’t ever listened to our filthy, stupid podcast: TalkRadar. We understand your trepidation. They're too long, podcasts are boring, etc… Well, here’s a bite-sized clip we humbly ask that you try super-quick like! It may not be what you were expecting

By far, the most popular TalkRadar bit of all time. Unfortunately, it’s hard to bring The Good King back for any other reason, since this improvised piece relates to a very specific, extremely bizarre news story that nobody remembers.

So, some dumbass kid in Norway wanted to change his name to “Sonic X,” after some dumbass hedgehog that used to star in great games. Whereas here in the states such a query would’ve been abruptly met with a “No.” or “Shut up” from a loving parent or guardian, Norwegian policy apparently dictates that only the KING OF GODDAMNED NORWAY is fit to yay or nay the idiotic requests of its young subjects. No seriously, this happened! We couldn’t help but envision a bored, powerless monarch with nothing better to do than shoot down the asinine whims of children and things just got funnier from there…

Best TDAR moment ever. I need to make my non-tdard friends listen to this.
  • TURbo - July 30, 2010 5:26 p.m.

I was laughing hard when I was roasting marshmellows, and my mom was furious because I was laughing for no apparent reason. Loved it the first time, and been diminishing returns since. It's the only TalkRadar segment to be played 4 times. 49, 50, Christmas Special, and 100.
  • H311DUCk - July 30, 2010 4:49 p.m.

    I love this clip
  • rxb - July 30, 2010 11:32 a.m.

I loved this the first time, the second time and the tenth time.
  • Starplatinum - July 30, 2010 10:39 a.m.

I love how this is partially a thread where ppl say what they were doing when LOLing the first time they heard this. I wish I remember what I was doing, all I know is my face hurt!

My eyes were watering by the end of this section, don't think I have laughed as hard at Talkradar. You are right in saying that it's one of the best bits that was ever on Talkradar

MHHHMMMMM. I was at work when I listened to this (at a library), and I was having a laughing fit among the dusty, quiet book stacks.
  • elpurplemonkey - July 30, 2010 5:16 a.m.

This has to be Chris's best "voice." As much as I like other voices like Duke Lombardi, the King is just done so much better. Good stuff.
  • SoySauceHater - July 30, 2010 3:40 a.m.

okay, its official, Im listening to every single talk radar from now on.
  • Limbo - July 30, 2010 3:27 a.m.

That was hilarious. I'm definitely going to have to start listening to this regularly. I already love the site, and that clip has assured me that T-Dar is worth my time.
  • VyseTheTetrisdork - July 30, 2010 1:48 a.m.

I believe I was at a mall food court eating a sub when the bit came up. I tried my best to contain the laughter and food that was about to come out of my mouth.

Can't get enough recognition for the 'dar. All of the comments are from people who already listen though :/
  • eNdo602 - July 30, 2010 12:57 a.m.

Love this voice. I always listen to the podcast at work (I work overnights at Walgreens) and when I hear the King of Names I always crack up and look like a crazy person.
  • hatebreeder - July 30, 2010 12:19 a.m.

Aww man, the king, love it! I can't believe TDar is still using that patch, I made that in 2008 and I got yelled at by chris for making brett look like jabba the hutt, I really need to find what podcast that was in.....TURbo?!?
  • AlpineGuy - July 30, 2010 12:14 a.m.

So I guess you can say that this is 'The Return of The King,' amirite?
  • CHAINSAWhaxor - July 30, 2010 12:07 a.m.

This is by far, the most hilarious bit ever!, I was listening to this on my walk, and I had to stop to sit down because I was laughing so hard! Oh, the looks on peoples faces when they walked by me.
  • Cyberninja - July 30, 2010 12:06 a.m.
