My experience with GTA3 was mainly notable because I wasn't supposed to be playing it at all. My mom wouldn't let me play M-rated games until I turned 17 (I was around 15 when I played GTA3) so it was a forbidden pleasure, adding a lot to the game's appeal because even if I'd been allowed to play it, I still would have cracked an evil grin over the unrestricted violence and theft. But knowing that I wasn't supposed to be doing it made it even more deliciously taboo. I'd played GTA2 before (because, oddly, it was rated T on PSX and M on DC, so I got it for PSX) but because of the aforementioned sprites and top-down view it just didn't have the same grit to it. GTA3 looks (and mostly plays) like ass now, but it's still got a special place in my nostalgia banks.

Ok I'm not the biggest fan of the GTA series but out of all of them I played this one the most. I may not like the series but I do respect it. I respect what the game did for gaming and me. It ushered in open world games, exposed me to games with a darker storyline and more mature themes, and showed me how fun just exploring in games can be. So happy 10th GTA3!

I still remember the Christmas my brothers and I got this as a present (we were 18, 16, and 14 respectively, so not too inappropriate a gift to get from your folks). We spent ALL DAY playing it, dying, and passing the controller, breaking only for meals... pretty good day.

Nice write-up Mr. Towell. Love this game. One of my all-time favourites. Can't believe it is older than me. I used to play it at arcades but I have it on the Saturn now. I never approached it as a racing game either. It was just one of those games you played to unwind and relax.

Thank you, David, AWESOME VICTORY! Oh how I loved the SNES port back in the days. I remember accidentally triggering my first combo ever with Fulgore. I was like "what the f**k just happend?!? Sweeeeet!!!"... :)) This game screams for a reboot or at least for a re-release in sweet hi-def!

Wow...! Great review. I was lucky enough to have been heavily involved with development of this and Ki2. LOVED it. From the prancing around in the motion capture suit, modelling and animating the cutscenes, to recording some of the voices. That game was my (and a lot of others!) life for a few years. The whole development was fun, and I'm really proud of that game to this day... I am after a KI2 and KI1 machine, when I find them in the UK in good condition, they're going side by side in the garage! Thanks for the great review there... We worked hard. And played hard. As did KI. Kev Bayliss

Ive been a fan of the games since i can remember, but gave away my copies awhile ago. so a while back on a boredom induced search, i came across playr.org, its an emulator site with the pokemon games from the old days (red/blue/yellow and gold/silver) best part is you can play them online, no download. If pokemon gets old theyve plenty of zelda and mario games to boot!

Well, I can't be sure of this and don't have proofs or anything. However, I do claim (and used to) that I was the first boy in Greenland who got his hands on Pokémon. Came back from a vacation in Denmark with a two VHS with them (Lt. Surge and Raichu FTW!). Got hooked, got the games and before you knew of it, everyone had the games and the card games. (not to mention the Danish voice-acting for Pokémon is some of the best they've ever done in that lil' country)

@Matt_Cundy, yeah I have played both of them. They are great games but I don't think they have particularly great stories. Silent Hill 2 tells a lot of its story true visuals and that has one of the greatest game stories ever. Ico or Shadow of the Colossus aren't up to that standard.

The second best game of all time, after Zelda: Majora's Mask. Alongside Braid and Super Mario Galaxy, arguably the purest gaming experience in existence. I can't imagine there ever being a game as good as this in the same way ever again, in the same way there's never been a film as good as Casablanca ever again. Technology advancements aren't everything. Ico was created by someone who understood games more thoroughly than anyone else of his era.

I loved this game, I had to rent a Playstation and the game from Blockbuster to play it. All I could remember was that they had the proper timing boxes with Murray Walker's voice ringing in my ears. F1 2011 or 2012 should have Brundle and Coulthard and the proper BBC (Screw you SKY) timing boxes ect as an option just to make it more interesting. In F1 2010 the HUD looks a bit like the 'arcade mode' HUD from F1 97, not good.

Yes! But Adelaide, which was still in the F1 calendar in the original Formula One, was a mirrored track, called (cleverly) "Edialeda". Pity it was taken out of the championship - it's only really been in TOCA Racedriver 2 since then, to my knowledge.

I prefer Bully to GTAIII/IV because by limiting what you can do a little, you feel a bit more a part of the city/town, not just a visitor with a sociopathic attitude. Also, the BMX parts were fun too.

Yeah, I've been hoping for a new Bully for ages. The college based sequel sounds good. I agree more mature themes and content. (Alittle more along the lines of college comedies (American Pie) than Harry Potter.
