SRS to hit PS2 and Xbox

Namco's SRS Street Racing Syndicate will finally be released in the UK on PS2 and Xbox by the summer thanks to a new deal with Codemasters, it was announced today.

The Need for Speed Underground-style street racer features locations based on US cities such as LA, Miami and Philadelphia and comprises miles of open streets in which players can push their nitrous-injected vehicles "to the limit". Blimey.

Head-to-head racing is available via split-screen, system link-up or online play while the 40 fully licensed vehicles - from the Mazda RX-7 Spirit R to the Nissan Skyline GT-R - all take realistic damage.

As you'd expect, there's also the inevitable onslaught of hundreds of modding parts as well as, we're told, "an in-game dyno that measures actual peak torque and horsepower in realtime". And you can't say fairer than that.

SRS Street Racing Syndicate will be released later this year for Xbox and PS2 (from which the shots on the right are taken). A Gamecube version is out now while a PC incarnation will be available later this month
