A good list. I played most of them and I agree that they are all good. I will not complain about the order as it is pointless, no personal list should be the same in that regard. However, Tom Magrino made a curious remark related to The Walking Dead. He said he didn't enjoyed the gameplay, reason why it wasn't higher in his personal list last year. Fair enough. I liked it because I considered as the main gameplay mechanic the series of choices that actually defines Lee Everett character as a role model to Clementine. In the other hand, I didn't enjoyed much The Last of Us for the same reasons. The story and acting are excellent but it was broken by the long intermissions with below average stealth and shooting gameplay. In The Last of Us, more than any other game, I sympathized with the late Roger Ebert opinion that gameplay was just a bothersome barrier to the story. The game didn't offer any choice but to follow a very linear story. It came to a point that I would rather watch the movie as I didn't found the gameplay compelling but I loved the story.

Actually, I would agree that The Last of Us was game of the year. I think the penny arcade about the ending really gets at what made it so special. My runner ups would be Beyond: Two Souls and A Link Between Worlds. Also, in response to Jackonimics2.0 below, I find this no different from a good book or movie. If you tell someone the ending to your favorite book, taken out of context from the rest of the story and world created in that book, then yeah, it's not going to seem that special. For example: The Old Man and the Sea is about a a dude who catches a fish, but can't bring the fish back to shore. Doesn't sound very special does it?

Your damn right about Gone Home getting all that appeal because of 90's crap. If I were to spoil the end right now people would be underwhelmed or cant believe it was praised if they haven't played it or experienced it's "journey" Apparently massive story telling is a good hit with people these days, no matter how crap the end punch line is GTA V was great, Trevor is the best character to ever existed and I only notices it now of how crap Michael is, wit Trevor caring more for his daughter. Though that wrecking moment of that jackass in the tattoo store was really satisfying.

Kinda hard to say my game of they year, but I'll just put my favorite 3, in no particular order. Pokemon Y, I already went through the game twice already, and plan on doing it again when pokemon bank comes out. Bioshock Infinite, just the story alone was amazing. The scenery was breath taking, with only the combat being its weak point in my opinion. Tomb Raider. Every minute of that game I loved. The collecting of the relics and journal entries were a nice touch that didn't make it feel like a collect-a-thon. The combat couldn't of been better. Puzzles were alright, could of used some more challenge, overall a really fun play.

I'm absolutely gutted Ride to Hell: Retribution wasn't even in the top ten.

i love that the first episode without fanboy coop in weeks is the GOTy episode, I'd love to hear how Geist was shafted in previous years. Also, Bioshock Infinite is pretty great.

TR for me. I can't remember the last time I played a game without having any issue that I actually noticed. I loved everything about it, and I thought it was a brilliant game. And holy shit, that radio tower scene. Jesus Christ. I'd give 2nd to GTA, then AC4. Those god damn tailing missions are a stupid ass decision that I cannot forgive after I'm sure what has been ample complaining on the side of the players and Ubi still not taking the hint. And holy hell this was a great year, I still have tons to play. Last of Us, fire emblem, luigi's mansion, link between worlds, injustice, tearaway, pokemon, rayman, and many more are on the list. This might be the best year in recent memory.

Ive been throwin it out there all week but my favorite game of this year was Dmc: devil may cry. I have never played a game in this series before but this game is so good to me, now let me explain: Music, the soundtrack is so well done, punk and techno, blended together to form a kick*ss sound for fighting the demons, (or driving on the highway, which is why i downloaded it) of limbo city, which leads me to Setting, not only are the multiple settings well rendered from extravagant designs and beautiful colors to grungey streets seen in the movies se7en and fight club, but the shifting landscape made for a fun mechanic for getting around and getting involving the player but was also just an interesting aesthetic. Cutscenes, the cut scenes were so well done and dialogue scripted great and created intense atmosphere in some places while being lite and fun in others and in most conveying the punk attitude that I found most endearing to me, also the mocap was well done and really brought out the characters emotions in the scenes as well. Characters, I loved new dante, I loved kat, I loved virgil, I love their voice actors talent in breathing personality into all three of them. The villains were also fun and interesting, most notably bob barbas Story, the story of how dante comes into his role as hero for humanity from a jerk off punk kid is bold and well done. We learn why he is the way he is in a humanizing way and see his slow turn through his interactions with kat and virgil towards good and finally his choice to protect the world. Gameplay, I think this is the only hack & slash this year, and if it isnt it might as well be for it it the greatest ive played in a long time, the use of the multiple weapons each with unique play was well done and switching between them to pull off combos also fun. Dmc, GOTY. There you go, you can have your meticulous convoluted ending that dont actually make sense(infinite) and arent well executed, as well as your not a zombie game zombie game(last of us) with its played out downer walking dead characters and world, but at the end of the day I think this game delivers a more satisfying experience of what games are about.

Metal Gear Rising also came out, and it's a better game (IMO), so... Even if it isn't, the fact that you claimed DmC was the only game of it's kind this year puts a bit of a red flag on my mind.
  • g1rldraco7 - December 13, 2013 7:01 p.m.

Starbreeze studios also made The Darkness game. Also I find it shocking that Lucas like Zelda games, Greg and Tom Magrino find the series boring. Ow my heart, anyway this was a great podcast :)
  • Jackonomics2.0 - December 13, 2013 7:21 p.m.

    Tom hates something FUCKING SHOCKER
  • Tranquilbez34 - December 13, 2013 6:12 p.m.

My Game of the Year goes to Grand Theft Auto V. Why? because Rockstar took what I liked and tolerated in GTA IV and made it A MILLION TIMES BETTER! The more emotion and personality in the three protagonists, The ever changing environments, How lively the city looks, The missions especially the Heists! It's hard to find faults in this Adonis of a Game.
  • GenderBender_9000 - December 13, 2013 5:52 p.m.
