RadarPlays - Persona 4 Arena

In the past six months, a majority of the GamesRadar staff came down with a bit of a Persona 4 fever. Now that we've finished playing through P4 Golden, we decided it was time to test our battle skills not against shadows in the Midnight Channel, but against our friends in Persona 4 Arena. Watch as Ryan, Lucas, and Henry throwdown (by which we mean mash buttons and pray for victory).

Want to hang out with GamesRadar's editors while taking a look at retro games, new releases, and totally random experiences? RadarPlays is for you. Mondays we'll be checking out blasts from the past on RadarPlays Retro, Wednesdays we change things up to whatever we feel like playing with RadarPlays Shuffle, and Friday is packed with the strangest titles you’ve never (hopefully) heard of in RadarPlays Freaky. We'll also release RadarPlays for all the new releases, so be sure to check back!

This video does not disprove the fact that game journalists are shit at fighting games
  • Nikku7 - May 30, 2013 6:11 p.m.

Does anyone else feel that Yukiko in this this game is really OP? I haven't played much into to this for fear of spoiling P4A, which I'm still playing, but based on some of the vs mode I've played with people it just seems like her distance attacks are a little too easy to spam out without being touched.
  • IAmARobotWhoTurnsIntoATruckAnd - June 5, 2013 1:46 a.m.

Yukiko is actually quite low tier, if you're having trouble against her you need to learn your options against her projectiles.

Ok, cool, thanks. I was actually wondering because my bro is usually better at fighting games than I, but I tend to win with her quite often still.. We should figure it out as we play more into it anyway.

Awesome game guys wish i could totally play it.... one thing though that was ALOT or random side talk :D
  • phoenixwright13 - May 30, 2013 8:33 a.m.

Can you play a Ace Attorney game sometime?
  • ZuzuPachulia - May 29, 2013 7:32 p.m.

So I REALLY wanna play P4, but is the golden version really that much better than the standard ps2 version? Don't have either console, but hesitant on getting a vita just for it
  • PlainLikeVanilla - May 29, 2013 7:53 p.m.

I bought the vita just for this game and didn't regret it. There are a couple other games worth playing on the vita like Gravity Rush. If you have the money I'd say go for it.
  • JMarsella09 - May 29, 2013 8:03 p.m.

I once made a list of all the changes in the Golden for the Persona 4 Animation facebook page. There are a lot of changes. If you don't feel that the Golden justifies the purchase of a Vita, then don't buy it. The Ps2 version is still one of the best RPGs of all time. The Golden the greatest version of the game.
  • Cyberninja - May 29, 2013 8:07 p.m.

Golden is great but you could get both the game and a ps2 for $70 max so you should just get that version.
  • dcobs123 - May 30, 2013 7:02 a.m.

Not really unless if you just NEED all the extra side quests and stuff. One thing to consider is there both pretty meaty games so a lot of people prefer the vita version because you can just play it on and off as opposed to investing all your console time into it. On the other hand, I think only the ps2 version has the soundtrack.
  • obviouslyadouche - May 29, 2013 7:14 p.m.

I got stuck in the P4G, I didn't level grind enough, and I can't beat the boss I'm on any tips.
  • Cyberninja - May 29, 2013 7:26 p.m.

What part are you at and what social links have you done? I can help you by telling you what persona would be best to fuse and use.
  • obviouslyadouche - May 29, 2013 7:40 p.m.

The Rise boss, Not sure about which personas, but I have pretty heavily invested in the social links, mostly Yoshuke and Yukiko.
  • JMarsella09 - May 29, 2013 7:56 p.m.

    Just grind more.
  • Cyberninja - May 29, 2013 7:59 p.m.

Oh the rise boss, for her you basically need to survive long enough to wittle down half her HP and then you move on to the second half of the boss fight, where you will want to bring a ice absorbing persona(ganga is good), and remember to guard with everyone on 2 turns after the boss uses nihil hand.
  • winner2 - May 29, 2013 7:07 p.m.

I have yet to get P4G, I was so scared there'd be major spoilers in this but y'all didnt, so thanks. And Henry is a sly dog indeed
  • Cyberninja - May 29, 2013 7:25 p.m.

You can play Arena, without worrying about Golden spoilers because they go out their way to avoid spoiling the vanilla game, the only thing you learn from this are who your party members are but even that is given away on the cover vanilla P4 and golden.
  • JMarsella09 - May 29, 2013 6:47 p.m.

My love for this game could pull down the moon with it's weight.
