When the colors red, blue, and yellow are lined up together, I can't help but think Knuckles, Sonic, and Tails.

Alright this is my first post on GamesRadar and while I've had an account on this site for a while and have been an even longer lurker of this site I felt this would be good first topic/thread to start so here's my first thoughts from the list. Barrel - Donkey Kong, specifically the Donkey Kong Country series Butterfly Net - Animal Crossing Chainsaw - Resident Evil 4, mainly because of the limited edition chainsaw controller for the Gamecube Flashlight - Alan Wake Cherries - Pac-Man Chattering Teeth - Batman Arkham Asylum Clay Pots - Couldn't think of anything at the time but feel stupid now that I didn't immediately think of Zelda since Pot breaking is an iconic part of the series Goat Skull - Skyrim, mainly because of it's similar shape to Dovahkiin's default helmet Ice Cream - Pokemon Black and White, due to the Ice Cream Pokemon Pigeons - Grand Theft Auto 4 Purple Cube - Q-bert at the time but feel like it should have reminded me of the Gamecube since I loved that console Suit with purple tie - Mafia 2, but I guess the purple motif to the suit should've tipped me off to it being Saint's Row Bunny Mask - Dishonored, for some reason or another Thimble - I had absolutely nothing but that's probably because I haven't played Bioshock Infinite yet Radio Tower - Didn't have anything at the time but I can definitely see Far Cry 3 as the reference point now Gold Rings - Catherine actually, due to two rings locked together usually signifying marriage, and that being a constant theme in that game Matryoshka Dolls - Stacking Sunflower - Flower UAV - Ace Combat, only because it looked like some kind of airplane to me, I know I'm weird Umbrella - Resident Evil series Purple Bandana - Saint's Row Pickaxe - Minecraft Crowbar - Half-Life 2 Ocarina - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Toy Capsule Machine: Yakuza Cake - Portal Diving Suit - Bioshock Pinata - Viva Pinata Egg Plant - Not a video game example but Courage the Cowardly Dog The name "Ramirez" - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 American Flag Bikini - Dead or Alive Desert Eagle - Modern First-Person Shooters in general Aluminum Bat - Earthbound/Mother 2, surprisingly Sledgehammer - Dead Rising, specifically 2 Bottle Caps - Fallout Typewriter - Resident Evil, again "Mad World" by Tears for Fears - MadWorld for the Nintendo Wii Ice Cream Truck - Twisted Metal, Sweet Tooth is an insanely twisted badass Go-Kart - Mario Kart series Cardboard Box - Metal Gear Solid series The word "Spartan" - Halo series Day of the Dead figurines - Grim Fandango "All I Want" by The Offspring - Crazy Taxi Pills - Left 4 Dead, specifically the first Animal Masks - Hotline Miami Haystack - Assassin's Creed 1 and 2 "Beyond the Sea" by Bobby Darin - Bioshock, again The name "Jason" - Heavy Rain First Aid Kit - Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 Graffiti - Didn't realize this was one of the objects as well until after reading your list GamesRadar but I'm almost positive I would've thought of Jet Set Radio as well since I love that game Anyway, this was a pretty fun experiment overall and I wouldn't mind seeing more of these types of features later down the line.

  • BladedFalcon - June 28, 2013 8:51 a.m.

It's kinda funny because it's not really that iconic or even important to the game at all, but seeing the ice cream truck immediately reminded me of The Last of Us XD Of course, there's also the fact that I never have played a twisted metal game, probably never will. Also, I'm genuinely surprised that after two iterations of this feature, and you guys STILL haven't included the Amanita mushroom ._.
  • Rub3z - June 28, 2013 9:54 p.m.

    Why wouldn't you?
  • BladedFalcon - June 28, 2013 10:06 p.m.

Because in all likelihood, It came to my mind because I just played the game, but again, it's such a non-crucial part of the plot that it's likely that if I see this picture again in one year, it won't be the first thing to pop into my mind again :P
  • Rub3z - June 28, 2013 10:18 p.m.

No, I mean why wouldn't you ever play a Twisted Metal game? Is it too twisted and metal for you? lol
  • BladedFalcon - June 29, 2013 4:36 a.m.

Because I dislike racing games in general and find them all boring? :P Yes, even those featuring guns.
  • Rub3z - June 29, 2013 8:07 a.m.

Lol. Well, I can't help you where disliking racing games and finding them boring is concerned... I am quite a racist myself, you see... however, I will say that Twisted Metal games by and large are not, and have hardly ever even tried to be racing games. So much so that most fans were quite surprised to see the cursory inclusion of racing game types in its latest iteration. It hardly made sense, but thankfully these racing sections were brief and few in number throughout the game's single player mode, and ended up serving, for me anyway, as a welcome diversion from the rest of the game's usual rough and tumble. Let me explain this bit about Twisted Metal not being racing games... you shouldn't really let the pretenses of "fast vehicles with guns attached to them" fool you into thinking that TM is at all a racer. It's more like a tightly controlled, twitch-action vehicular manslaughter extravaganza. I can put this on more comparative terms... I know you don't like racing games, but surely you've played Mario Kart, right? Do you ever remember the destruction derby vs. mode, in which you drive around picking up ? boxes to get power ups and items in a small arena, where the goal is to pop everyone else's balloons? TM is like the rated M version of that, and much less inviting. In a good way, I mean. Twisted Metal is like, taking all of the trappings of an old-school-90s-arena-deathmatch game - tight controls, collecting weapons and power ups in a variety of discrete arenas, twitch gameplay - and dressing it in the guise of absolutely ludicrously chaotic and destructive vehicular combat. Like some of the best maps on arena shooters, there's an amazing sense of verticality to some maps, except instead of rocket jumping, picture yourself hitting a sweet ramp to get to a vantage point or precious power weapon. Like a good competitive game of yore, the controls are hiding an entire slew of advanced gameplay mechanisms that can be at your disposal in a pinch once you've mastered them, separating you from the novices who are just driving around, helplessly mashing the fire button, and hoping they can find good power ups before other players. For example, most people don't know that in this game of driving (mostly) cars, there's a way you can jump. At will. And it's not even like a Mario Kart bunny hop either. You can jump the car more than twice its height off the ground. As if you've just imbued your car with the most over the top hydraulic system ever. You can use this to your advantage to get extra height on ramps and get to places otherwise out of reach, to dodge incoming fire (it's awesome watching a screaming rocket sail just a couple feet below your tires, and imagining what the other player is thinking as they're sure they had the drop on you), or to make a quick get away to cover over and behind some scenery. You even have the ability at your disposal to turn your car on dime in a fraction of a second, and even do so in midair. There's ways you can wrangle your vehicle that absolutely defy what you should ever be allowed to do in your typical driving game, in service to having the ability to survive longer than everyone else. Because TM isn't really a game about driving. The vehicles are like an excuse to put the game's insatiable penchant for nihilistic amounts of destruction into high speeds across various totally destructable (and in some cases destructive) locales, and color it with the bombast of burning metal and roaring engines exploding into a thousand pieces at 80mph at the behest of ludicrous Technicolor power-ups and special vehicle abilities, like the remote-controlled kamikaze ambulance gurney or triple-rotary chaingun semi-truck or the motorcycle chainsaw throw or the walking, flying ice cream truck or even a helicopter. Yes, the game isn't limited to just cars or even strictly ground vehicles. So yes, erm... Twisted Metal. Crazy awesome, and not a racing game. You should honestly try it.
  • BladedFalcon - June 29, 2013 3:04 p.m.

Eh... Sorry to burst your bubble, but most of what you're talking about really doesn't appeal to me. Even if it's not a proper racer, it sounds like the game main's appeal is multiplayer against other people... And I hate multiplayer :P So, I appreciate the enthusiastic pitch, and I can tell you're passionate about the franchise. But it's jsut not my cup of tea XD And there's also the fact that I find the game's art-style and aesthetic completely unappealing *shrugs*
  • Rub3z - June 29, 2013 5:44 p.m.

That's alright. The single player mode and playing against bots is still fun, if arguably not enough to hold up the entire package... I played through the game's story mode in like at least 15 hours if I can remember... you can get a lot of mileage out of it playing on a higher difficulty and completing various level challenges. Also, the game's premise for justifying the ridiculous vehicular carnage, fleshing out the reasons various psychopaths enter this tournament through live-action cutscenes between sets of levels, is totally warped and darkly amusing. It's a great challenge and might be worth a rental for you at least, as now the latest game is probs cheap as all hell.

  • drew-pfaff - June 27, 2013 9:28 p.m.

I honestly thought of Ape Escape with the butterfly net, and the sledgehammer made me think of bully, and the teeth made me think of either of the newest batman games, Ramirez made me think of killzone...or at least I think someone was named that in killzone, there were only a few I didn't think of anything for, like the suit, that one definitely stumped me.
  • Mumb00 - June 27, 2013 8:59 p.m.

Cherries = Okami (Astral Pouch food) Ramirez = Skies Of Arcadia (Least intimidating-looking endgame boss ever)
  • BackwaterRifle - June 27, 2013 7:08 p.m.

Goat skull makes me think of fiends from new vegas
  • kachigop - June 28, 2013 6:09 a.m.

I thought of Red Dead Redemption. Funny how many objects I saw and went, "oh I know what that is" and it turned out to be a different game than the one GamesRadar had picked.
