Once again everyone’s favorite boy ninja has come to town to defy what we expect from licensed anime titles. People who’ve enjoyed the lads’s Wii and PS2 outings (or just looking forward to his upcoming 360 debut) are left with little to bellyache about when it comes to Naruto on the go. Comfortably starddling the line between fighting game and 2-D side-scroller, Naruto: Ninja Council 3 offers up sixty plus unique missions for you and your friends to play. And it’s not all about the kicking of ass either. You’ll have to collect scrolls, defeat beasties, and sometimes - simply stay alive.
You’ll doubtlessly like some missions more than others. We kinda hated the bat level for instance, but thankfully, the game doesn’t force you play missions in any particular order. Feel free to skip or hold off on the levels giving you problems, playing, and replaying, the stuff you like. Of course you’ll have to play everything to unlock all the characters and all that extra stuff such Naruto fans go nuts over. plus perfecting a level for a better grade adds to the replayability of a somewhat short game.
Because it wouldn’t be a proper sequel without more, more, more - Naruto: Ninja Council 3 ups the previously meager character roster to a whopping 27 lavishly animated, playable fighters. In addition to some simple combos, uppercuts, and powerful jumps, each character is endowed with special techniques that you can pull off given the right amount of Chakra power (below your health bar) and some deft implementation of the touch screen. Spin a wheel for Naruto’s Uzunaki Barrage, blow into the mic to unleash Sasuke flaming Phoenix Flower, or tap chakra pressure points on a body with the stylus. What’s even better is that you can take any character's special move into battle with any character. Hate the fat bodied Choji, yet still envious of his Human Boulder technique? No problem. Swap out Sakuro’s Girl Power move and take it into battle as one of your three specials techniques. Ah, customization.
