Mega Man creator launches Kickstarter for a spiritual successor

Keiji Inafune gained fame as the creator of Mega Man, and he also gained further notoriety for his strong views on the Japanese game industry. He was outspoken both when he worked for Capcom, and in the years since he left while working on games as diverse as Soul Sacrifice and Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z. Now Inafune is making waves again, this time announcing a Kickstarter campaign for Mighty No. 9, a series that is unabashedly a spiritual successor to Mega Man.

The Kickstarter page went live after Inafune revealed the game during a panel at this year's PAX Prime in Seattle, and the page reveals many more Mega Man veterans are involved in the game beyond Inafune-san. The goal is a very fitting $900,000, and the title is currently only planned for PC. However, Inafune says that other consoles could come down the line if stretch goals are met.

So what say you? The concept art looks incredibly close to the beloved Blue Bomber, but can Inafune pull off the same magic again (assuming he even reaches the steep funding goal)?
