So... More of the same, essentially what every single Mario kart game has been since the n64 one. No surprises here then.
  • Vonter - May 15, 2014 9:25 a.m.

It's like they say "don't fix it if it's not broken". Even the small changes are things people complain, roster and battle mode. I personally think is the inside what have might changed, since the control, item frequence and stats may change something. But yeah it's like COD or a FIFA in the sense that if you ever liked the series you probably like this one, and if not, it looks more of the same. I haven't played one since the DS version, so I hope this one feels different. At least I know for fact snaking will not be as abused as with that game. Or that it'll not be as annoying from what I've heard of Mario Kart Wii (this one also seemed to run with the Double Dash engine).

There never really was surprises, its all about the track design and the multiplayer. Even Double Dash, considered by many to be a big step forward for the series, didnt really do anything other than give you an excuse to carry 2 items. The only real changer 7's customization and standards, 8 is just improving upon it graphically, design wise, and competitively.
  • Vonter - May 15, 2014 9:55 p.m.

I disagree, it had Bob-omb Blast. :p And unique character item added some depth to them. I didn't play 7 but I've heard the "improvements" were mainly cosmethic. I think that's also the case for antigravity, but still this game is meant to played with friends. Just a shame for battle mode, I hope they could just add block fort at some point and ditch the ghost part of it since it sounds unfair.
  • shawksta - May 15, 2014 11:26 p.m.

I forgot about Bob-omb Blast, silly me :P I think you can probably customize the Battle mode options too, so you can do a battle with only bombs, sure it wouldnt be the triple threat but better than nothing. The Improvements in 7 were balance while the customization was a neat touch, specifically in the Online Communities, Mario Kart is pushing for more enjoyment online, its the little things combined that make's a difference. Because otherwise the games before were unbalanced in a sort of way. As i said, i think its a love/hate relation, we'll have to try it for ourselves to see how Battle Mode in Race tracks feels.

Wtf mobile! I Copied and pasted what I had written as a guest and it copied something else apparently. Anyways my questions was are the levels locked in multiplayer until unlocking them in single player? I'm hoping to have a local tournament the day after it comes out and I'd rather not get a huge advantage by beating every level single player just so we can play them in multiplayer. Thanks and I can't wait to play this game!
  • ncurry2 - May 15, 2014 6:03 a.m.

$51 each way. Not worth thanks!

Also, as my comment above alludes to, could you add a delete option? I most certainly am getting this game, well worth the price. Also make mobile browsing better.

  • CitizenWolfie - May 15, 2014 4:45 a.m.

Never mind, I missed where it says exactly that in the last paragraph.
  • CitizenWolfie - May 15, 2014 4:44 a.m.

Justin, would you say that MK8 feels more like "going through the motions?" I've been getting that feeling since MK Wii (I thought Double Dash was the last time they tried to shake anything up significantly). Not just with the Mario Kart games either - but with most of Nintendo's big names. Bit disappointed to hear the anti grav stuff doesn't add much. I was hoping for some crazy Rollcage type action. Do they at least reverse the steering controls while you're upside down?
  • pl4y4h - May 15, 2014 10:38 a.m.

Why would they need to reverse them? The camera makes it so you're always technically seen as right side up
  • CitizenWolfie - May 15, 2014 12:45 p.m.

For some reason I imagined the camera would stay the right way up and therefore reverse the controls. Otherwise the whole thing seems a bit pointless...
  • buro13 - May 15, 2014 1:19 a.m.

I still dont understand why they do not include Samus, Link, toon link, Zelda, Pokemon, Ash, etc. etc ala Smash Bros. instead of all these characters nobody gives 2 craps about. It would make this game incredible even more!
  • Cyberninja - May 15, 2014 5:15 a.m.

Because then it is no longer MARIO kart and just becomes Nintendo Kart
  • Vonter - May 15, 2014 1:01 a.m.

The last paragraph greatly reflects my apathy with shooting games. I hope I don't feel it with this game. Different tastes and all.
  • wEEman33 - May 15, 2014 12:52 a.m.

    May 30 Greatness Awaits!
  • J-Fid - May 14, 2014 4:47 p.m.

    Oh boy, 3 AM!!!

  • Jackonomics2.0 - May 14, 2014 1:36 p.m.

You still have like 2 weeks before the game comes out. And even then Watch Dogs comes out 3 days before it and its review is nowhere to be seen.
