Kratos in Mortal Kombat: screens and videos of the PS3 exclusive fighter

The verdict is in: the new Mortal Kombat is fun as hell and totally worth your time. But PS3 players have a little something extra to look forward to - the ashen God of War, who joins the roster as a Sony-only exclusive character. While he doesn't exactly tip the scale in favor of the PS3 version over the 360 one (both are equally excellent), Kratos' appearance is a smart, fitting inclusion; he's every bit as ruthless and violent as the MK kombatants, so why bring him along for the ride?

Above: His X-ray move, which features the Nemean Cestus crushing skulls, and then his nasty fatality

Above: Kratos can use the head of Helios to blind opponents

Above: Hermes' Sandals blast Kratos across the screen, similar to Sub-Zero's ice slide

Above: A quicktime event in Mortal Kombat? Don't worry, it's just a one button move

Above: A still of the fatality in action. Ewww!

Above: Kratos' alternate costume, his "fear" appearance seen at the end of God of War III

Above: While we're at it... WTF is the deal with Kratos and Quan Chi? These dudes look awfully similar

Above: Their in-game models. Ashy white skin, red markings, shoulder guards... and Quan Chi's got about eight years on Kratos

Will the 360 version ever see an exclusive character? Warner Bros and NetherRealm aren't saying, but we can at least expect DLC additions to the roster for both consoles. Thing is... who's left from the MK universe you'd like to see? They got all the biggies in, leaving only characters from the Deadly Alliance/Deception days out in the cold. Any of them strike your fancy?

Mortal Kombat

I've recently been finding myself more and more fed up with how much I miss out on because of having a 360. Having to pay monthly for access to an internet I already own and miss out on games/bonuses all the time is just plain irritating. I don't have enough money to get a ps3, and to sell my xbox and all its games to rebuy them on a new system is tedious and probably wouldn't leave me enough money to buy everything. Yes, halo and gears is cool, but seriously M$? Is that where it ends? That being said, I might be overlooking some stuff. Nevertheless, it still gets to me. Anyone in agreement?

I always liked Ashra, she had a bad-ass 35-hit combo that took about 1/3 your opponent's life bar and it was easy to land.

i luagh at the xbox fanboys...they dont know what their mnissing... however if the 360 release does have [insert fan favorite here] then it may be worth the risk :p
  • philipshaw - April 20, 2011 2:59 p.m.

Don't really need any DLC, they got all the characters from MK 1-3 that I care about. Also didn't notice how similar Quan-Chi and Kratos look until you pointed it out
  • Felixthecat - April 20, 2011 1:21 p.m.

Oh, and he'll be banned from tournaments.
  • cj12297 - April 20, 2011 1:18 p.m.

Kratos should rip people heads off as his fatality. just like in GOW3
  • aaron171 - April 20, 2011 10:42 a.m.

@pimpdaddy really? you think master chief could own Kratos? think about this. Kratos killed greek gods. master cheif killed aliens. which do you think is more impressive... shooting aliens with a gun, or tearing Helios's head off with your bare hands? if that was sarcastic im sorry. i have no paitence for halo fanboys
  • pimpdaddie - April 20, 2011 1:37 a.m.

Master Chief would own this joker
  • Turboash - April 20, 2011 1:16 a.m.

Ho-ly crap that is a gruesome fatality... actually made me COL (cringe out loud).
  • BigDannyH - April 20, 2011 12:06 a.m.

Alan Wake. His fatality could be to keep shining his torch in your eyes. Might not kill you but would be very annoying. Or he could read you one of his manuscripts and bore you to death. Or throw luke warm coffee at you from his thermos. Actually starting to sound quite good ...

@VaneTrago "superior Dpad"? haha, come on now, if you're talking fighting games then you're talking arcade sticks so it doesn't matter the console so who cares about a d-pad? And I'm not saying that Kratos isn't dope, because he is, but in a few weeks or a month no one will care anymore because he'll be played out and he will be the only dude you see online on PSN.The thing I'm more excited for is the crypt and future DLC , not Kratos.
  • VaneTrago - April 19, 2011 11:41 p.m.

It absolutely tips the scales, especially in an age where fighters are generally considered to already be better on the PS3 because of its superior Dpad. And it's not like he's a throwaway character as he is mighty spicy indeed.

"While he doesn't exactly tip the scale in favor of the PS3 version over the 360 one" For someone who owns both consoles, it was most certainly did tip it for me. As for a 360 exclusive character... no idea. Erm, some kind of Gears Locust? Best thing off the top of my head.
  • FanofSaiyan - April 19, 2011 10:25 p.m.

Looks like NetherRealm managed to make Kratos' fatality just as bloody as his standalone games. Personally I'd like to see some Killer Instinct characters as DLC for both versions of the game. I would love to rip apart Liu Kang as Jago. MAYBE THEY COULD ADD THE ANNOUNCER TOO!!! Also maybe adding some extra God of War characters into the mix: Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, any of the gods would be a great addition.
  • Fuzunga - April 19, 2011 10:08 p.m.

No. There will be no exclusive character on the 360.
  • suicidali - April 19, 2011 9:32 p.m.

Armageddon is the only other MK game I've played, and the only two I liked that aren't in this were Nitara and Mokap. The former might make it as DLC, the latter... Not so much. Also, dayyyyyum @ Kratos' fatality.
  • TheElephantManchurianCandidate - April 19, 2011 9:14 p.m.

People who like Rain are crazy he wasn't even a full character
  • Felixthecat - April 19, 2011 9:07 p.m.

First time I saw that fatality I cringed. I'll be getting it on Xbox though, but whatever. Also, Kenshi has been confirmed as DLC (along with a new character), so that's at least one Deadly Alliance character. There's no Xbox exclusive character because of something to do with paperwork, I believe.
  • xXGhostXx - April 19, 2011 8:46 p.m.

Bring back Rain lol he's awesome
  • Anjaneya - April 19, 2011 7:42 p.m.

Boon seemed to hint that Microsoft wouldnt cooperate with an X-Box exclusive character.
