GTA V: Officially getting you more excited for the debut trailer with other Grand Theft Auto debut trailers

There’s not long to go now until Rockstar finally unveil their GTA 5 trailer – unless you’re reading this afterwards, in which case disregard that first bit. Let’s be honest, we’re properly excited. Like groin tinglingly so and by the amount of activity in our Twitter feed we can tell we’re not alone.

We’re so pumped for the debut of GTAV that we’ve scoured the interwebs in search of the old, initial trailers for previous iterations. We remember GTAIV’s ‘Things Will Be Different’ trailer with the first glimpse of Niko Bellic from yesteryear, but how many of you remember how you felt when Vice City and San Andreas were aired?

Thankfully, we’ve got the clips to jog your memory. And not just that, we fancy that these previous efforts point to what to expect from GTA V’s film today. Have a look-see at these and we’ll discuss our findings below…

GTA III

GTA Vice City

GTA San Andreas

GTA IV

Done? Did you work it out? Of course you did, you clever lot, but just for those who skipped straight to this bit we’ll let you know because we’re good like that. Bulletpoints ahoy!

  • We’ll almost certainly see the lead character of GTA V today. Claude (GTAIII), Tommy (Vice City), CJ (San Andreas) and Niko (GTAIV) are all featured in the debut trailers and unless Rockstar are going to buck a trend then the lead man/woman will be unveiled.
  • Expect an infectious track to be accompanied by shots of the area (Los Santos?) you’ll be driving around, which leads to…
  • Erm, cars. There will definitely be cars in the trailer. You didn't get that one, did you?

Did you spot another common theme from the previous trailers that may appear in the GTA V one? Let us know in the comments below. Oh, and remember to watch the new tailer here. That GTA IV trailer was as depressing as the lack of fun in this game. Let's hope they'll come back to the less serious-more stuff to do approach of the older one.

I have always loved GTA but the trailers never do anything for me. But I do love the Kool and the Gang music in the Vice City one. That game had a great soundtrack!

one thing I noticed was that the backing music to the trailer was VERY important in setting the tone for the game, even the setting - opera reminds me of the mafioso of the Godfather, etc. SO PAY ATTENTION TO THE MUSIC?

there is one thing all the video's has in common and that's that they show off the new mode of transport in each video for example: motorbikes in Vice City pedal bikes/ planes in San Andreas and finally the train in GTA IV so maybe we'll see a new mode of transport or even the return of vehicles that were missing from GTA IV.

There was a train in GTA3 and San Andreas. In fact, you could steal the train in San Andreas, so GTA4 was a step back in that aspect.

Gta III, Vice City and San Andreas were all released in October so maybe they'll return to October releases?

Watching these trailers again gave me a nostalgiac overload. Especially the Vice City trailer, I literally cried tears of joy :') I'm listening to A flock of seagulls - I ran, as I type this. Apart from all the points listed, I noticed that they all had a release date of October. Also it would be great it this gen follows the path of the last gen settings. As in, GTA III was liberty city, then vice city followed by San Andreas. We've already had liberty city, I hope it's vice city. Time will tell.

Gta4 came out in April I believe, not October, so I don't think there's a link.

Gta IV was originally announced for October 2007, but was pushed until April 2008. So it is probably a good suggestion that Gta V will be announced for October. Going on the trend of past games.
