The Top 7... games that should've had co-op

Because playing with yourself is only fun for so long

Words: Brett Elston, GamesRadar US

Needed co-op because: there were, are and always will be four effing Ninja Turtles.

Above: Missing the point

Flopping in at number one is the most egregious misuse of a popular license; TMNT is a one-player game based on a property that’s been built, from day one, around four mutated heroes. All four are present and playable, but only one person can play the game. There isn’t even a two player option despite there being co-op attacks involving two turtles at a time. Stranger still is the fact that the second turtle, the one you call upon for the co-op special move, literally floats in from the ether, does the move and disappears. Go ninja, go?

TMNT hit in early 2007, not too long after the lucrative franchise celebrated its 20th anniversary. Did Ubisoft think people who grew up with the series have no friends and would be unable to rustle up three pals for such a jubilant milestone? We’ve been doing so since the friggin’ 1989 arcade game, arguing over quarters and beating up kids smaller than us just to steal 50 pathetic cents. Small aside: could beating up little kids be the ultimate co-op?

Above: Four players?!? What kind of futuristic nonsense is this?

There are far better games on this list, but none are as face-palmingly clueless as TMNT. The franchise already has a long history of cooperative games that make smart use of the quartet – from the NES to the upcoming Wii brawler - so what was so damn hard about making one more?

I just think every FPS should have the option of being CO-OP in this day and age...
Why wouldn't it...I hate to say it but, Halo 2 did it last gen, so...

i dont mean to be "that guy" but kingdom hearts & final fantasy xii as well as maybe dark chronicle(dark cloud 2)would also be great fun co-op

Dead rising should be on this list. U were constantly surronded with crappy AI partners, and messing around with a mate on this would of rocked.

I also had been thinking fallout 3 would have ruled with an actual human buddy, the AI side kicks were limited to say the least.

Going back a few years, any one remember power rangers on the SNES? Awsome game but why leave out co-op?

I vaguely remember reading something about SOTC being a 4 player game originally? Or maybe it was some mod someone was dreaming up - either way, it sounds pretty cool, and would add a whole new dynamic to taking some of the colossi down (all four players need to stab seperate areas at once, form 'human chains' to reach inaccesible areas, etc). Overall, it would detract a little from the isolated feel of the game - but it would certainly be a blast to play...

i have to agree with dougal, kingdom hearts with a buddy would be pure genious.

Dead Rising co-op would have been magnificent. Look for the sequel to deliver on that.

I'm torn about whether BioShock would have been any good as a co-op game - the sense of isolation is crucial to the atmosphere of the story.

@Joe- I recently heard that Bioshock MIGHT have multiplayer (Maybe even co-op). Still, it might either enhance the perfection of Bioshock, or utterly ruin it.

I dont think Bioshock should be co-op I mean whats the fun and weirdness of killing splicers and big dadys when somone else is there doing it with you.

Jericho..
If it had co-op, the person would have to be good with whatever character they were going to use. Because some peoples techniques and skills are needed to kill certain enemies, and get through certain parts of the game.

I would know, I played the SHIT out of that game.

^ I agree. I think that's what would make the battles against the larger enemies so much fun. Still a decent game solo, but if it were co-op I'd probably run through it multiple times.

Battlefield: Bad Company badly needed co-op I think.

fallout needs coop

Top game that should've had co-op? Fable 2. lulz

Seriously though, couldn't agree more with #1; Turtles in Time is like the greatest co-op experience ever.
vic88  - 9 months 20 days ago
devil may cry or ninja gaiden would be more hectic and fun with two or three other characters ( Dante, Nero, Trish and Lady all fighting at the same time
